I don't see Lou as the type to trade Clarkson just because they haven't been talking. Even if he got burned on Parise leaving (not really, they went to the Cup finals with him) he isn't going to move Clarkson.

That means having to sign him in free agency when everyone wants to sign him and the roster is already set for us. Not a situation I'd want to be in.

Best to leave the Clarkson dream alone, especially since he's a tad overrated around here.

I wouldn't be against a package involving Clarkson for one of our 2nds. Not sure what would have to be added, but doesn't NJ have to sacrifice a pick this year?

Don't even compare what the Pens have done, to what this once fabled franchise has done the last 10 years. Pittsburgh is among the top cap management teams in the game, they have incredible asset management and a history of GM's that aren't afraid to get the final piece of the puzzle for a cup run.

The Pens have among the best scouts and drafting in the business. I mean, the end result here is to go for a championship, so trading for a logical piece of the puzzle makes sense at some point.

2013 or 2014. They host this year's draft, so it will be next year.

How about Dalton Prout from columbus ? Kid is young ~22y/o 6'3 225lbs RH Dman and can fight . He would be a good player to improve our small d squad.

I think the playoff stats speak for themselves. I'd love to see a list of players with 100+ GP and over a PPG in the postseason. I'm sure he's in elite company.

Why is it always the Habs that can`t trade draft picks and young talent in our system. Don`t we have like 6 picks in the first 3 rounds i`m sure we can get rid of one to pick up something we need to make a run this year. We got 3 young D in canadiens roster now,Subban,Emelin, and Diaz.... Don`t we have like 6 or 7 good D prospects that can be in Nhl in the next few years. They can`t all play for the Habs cause there will be to many so we need to choose the right ones to give away in trade if it needs be.

I could be wrong, but i think MB probably realizes we might not have the team for a legit cup run [not saying we dont or cant get on a roll but...] and he does not want to sacrifice the future for an 'iffy; year. Pitt has been there and a piece here or there could complete the puzzle. most of us realize we are more then just 1 or 2 pieces away. [maybe we have the pieces but they need a little more maturity and/or seasoning.

Were you not around between 2008 and 2011? Those countless rental deals that were all for not in the end are a pretty good example of why many of us aren't gung ho on trading futures for rentals.

Let's face it, we haven't been good enough in the last decade to justify making a big trade at the deadline. Closest we came was Hossa that one year until PIT upped their offer.

It's up for debate, IMO, if we're even good enough this year to justify a big move. Are we the real deal or just on a hot 30 game streak? Is it worth the gamble now that we have an idea of how high the costs are? Bergevin has some tough decisions ahead IMO.

couldnt be more wrong. Pens strategy always been this : suck badly, get generational talents (Lemieux/Jagr), trade prospects and picks to help the generational talents, once the two are gone trough trade or retirement... suck badly, get generationnal talent (Crosby/Malkin), trade prospects and picks to help the generationnal talents...

wanna bet on what will happen once Malkin and Crosby are no longer playing for the Pens ?

The core of the team is young enough so that we shouldn't gamble for everything this year. We've also got long-term contracts on many of our core players. Instead of gambling picks we should wait for this summer to sign one or two UFA. The team so far has been doing great with few physical players, if we need to add toughness it's better to do it after the PO. Let's hope our boys don't get too banged up out there and make the best run possible.

This is what I want this summer

- Trade Moen for a draft pick/prospect
- Sign Armstrong to a 1yr 650K$ contract ( Army can do much better than he's doing right now and playing with Moen and White didn't help him )
- Sign Bryan Bickell to a 4yr 2.5M$ per contract
- Get rid of White ( he's terrible and I hope for him that his future gets brighter )
- Bring up Dumont to complete the fourth line

- Buy out Kaberle and trade Weber if we still can.
- Sign Ryder to a 1yr 3M$ contract ( there is no better left winger than Ryder on the UFA market this summer. )
