Couple of trades I think could pay off big without costing a heap, ala MSL style.

Jaromir Jagr
Stephane Robidas

Louis Leblanc
2nd
Lesser pick/prospect (ideally Moen for salary)

Maxime Talbot

Yannik Weber
2nd (Preferably a 3rd)
----------

Pacioretty - Plekanec - Jagr
Bourque - Desharnais - Gionta
Gallagher - Galchenyuk - Ryder
Prust - Eller - Talbot
Halpern/Armstrong

Markov - Diaz
Gorges - Subban
Robidas - Emelin
Bouillon

We give up some picks and prospects but none that are liable to make an impact on our roster any time soon, if ever. And in doing so acquire a very solid depth on basically every front. Admittedly, Robidas is more a luxury than a necessity, but I would prefer him to Bouillon on the back end were it an option. Moen is not on the lineup because frankly, I'd like to see him gone. Should we acquire Talbot, he is a vast improvement on nearly everything Moen does.

Supposedly he has said he won't discuss contract extensions until the off season; Stars fans were discussing in on their board.

I never want to see a 35 points Clarkson for 5M$ a year on the Habs.

Yeah I can see Clarkson turning into a bad signing pretty quick. Useful player but more of a depth guy than a core guy. He is ok for 3.75 maybe 4 mil/year at 4-5 years but if you get around 5-5.5 mil then he can become an albatross pretty quick.

Clarkson is exactly what this team needs. Is he worth 5? Is Gionta? I would rather have Clarkson

Clarkson is a bum who can't skate. He'll go sour in a year or two max. He's not going to score 30 on our 3rd line with below average PP time. 5M/year is immediately the worst contract on our team.

Put that cap space towards a trade for a star with a big cap hit.

12 and 11 goals the years before. 5M is a joke.

I like it. Gives some solid 4th liner that isn't working out for us to Dallas. Too bad for Louis, but to get Jagr, that would be worth it.

Talbot would be a perfect replacement to Moen; like you say. And Weber isn't cutting it at the moment in our team; might turn out to do good things with the Flyers.

Gionta is the best goalscorer on our team. Clarkson had only ONE good season and hell be 29 next yo. More than 3M$ and you have a bad contract.

Plekanec might have something to say about that.

Leblanc has zero value in any trade. He's busting. (Cover my head, wait for the **** to fly)

That's what 35 points and intelligence, toughness will be worth in 2 years.

I'm confused lately.
The cap is going down but salaries are going up.

Why would Perry/Getzlaf etc now be worth 8 with the cap going down?

Gionta was a much better player than Clarkson in each's career so far.

Gionta isn't worth 5 mil based on his once ice play but his leadership and impact in the room added it makes it worth the cap hit.

Salaries are not really going up, the new CBA bumps up cap hits because of the new clauses.

You can't sign Kovalchuk Richards Hossa Luongo etc type contracts any more.

Pass. Moen brings more to the table than Torres.

Talbot would be a fantastic addition with what he brings to the table and minimal cap hit. Not sure if Philly would let him go or how much they would want. Maybe a late 2nd and mid prospect?

I would take that chance. Look at all Prust did for us and with less talent.

It takes a fan from another team to understand our needs.

It would take more than Gorges but getting Brouwer and Erkstine would really be the ideal trade going into the playoffs.

brouwer would be great but caps gave up a first rounder for him, didn;t they? and theyre in a playoff race too so i dont think they start dumping guys now.
