Luke Schenn Vs. Tyler Myers Revisited

There was a debate between who was better. Schenn was looked as a strict defensive guy which he is, but he does that well. Myers showed offense in his rookie season winning the ROTY award.

However, Myers are regressed and while a lot of fans blamed it on Ruff's system, it was the same system that he won the ROTY aware under.

Schenn had his bumps along the way under Wilson as well but has seemed to find a comfort zone in Philly.

If we presently, who is the better pro?

No, not on the system. On Ruff himself and the way he treats/handles young players. Specifically, in Myers' case, he was trying to force him to be something he's not and put a lot more pressure on the kid than he could handle at a young age. Myers has improved steadily since Rolston took over.

As to the poll, I still go with Myers. Still has the higher ceiling, still capable of taking over games in a way Schenn is not.

It's very close. I voted Schenn, but that's cause I have to watch Myers frustrate Sabres fans everywhere.

It's close. I think Schenn is better in his zone, Myers is better offensively.

The one thing that they have in common:

They alternate between good and bad years. Myers and Schenn look great one year, then the next year they have no idea what to do, get back and play good again..

Both get a lot of negative things said about them, pretty undeserving since they are both terrific defenders. This is a tough choice, but I ended up going with Myers. Very close though.

Everytime I see Myers he looks soooooo bad. I must catch him at the wrong times but he barely looks NHL caliber when I watch him.

Having watched both quite a bit this year(though admittedly a Flyer fan), I would say Luke Schenn is having a better year, and performing better this year. So I would take him this year.

That being said, I've seen what Tyler Myers can do, and if he meets his potential he'll make this comparison laughable. He seems a bit fragile...mentally, but he seems to have all the tools...if he succeeds in piecing it together he'll be a stud.

Schenn

Schenn is better in his own zone and Myers is not good in the one zone he is supposed to be better in...Although neither are very good in the offensive zone I would much rather have Schenn...At least you know you are getting a pretty good defensive dman.

While true both have been in the league for 4 seasons now and Myers has regressed big time since his rookie year...There is time to turn it around as you say they are young but most 23yr old dman who are in the league at such a young age and stick around normally have it somewhat figured out by now...Especially offensive dman as its much easier for them to translate.

Won't vote because I don't watch enough of Myers, but Schenn is one of the few bright spots on an abysmal flyers team this year. He's much quicker than advertised, and he literally punishes opposing forwards. Plus, his first pass and shot are much better than what I saw from his time in Toronto.

If I were given the choice, I'd take Myers without hesitating. It would be too hard for me to pass on his upside, despite his sub-par play the last two seasons.

With Schenn, you know what you're going to get... but you're also not getting much. I don't see him ever amount to much more than a #4 defenseman. Myers, on the other hand, could easily become one of the best in the league.

Both of these guys seem to lack guidance in their games. Myers was at least twice the player he is now when he was a rookie. Schenn has shown flashes of being a good player and he is a good hitter, but he makes terrible mistakes like Myers does. I wonder how Schenn would do if Pronger was still on the team or if Myers had someone like Chara to guide him.

Right now they both seem a little bit lost defensively.

I would say that age where a Dman figures it out is more around 25-27. Myers has looked bad but I cant emphasize enough that Chara was terrible until he was in his mid 20's. Schenn is that safer player, but Myers is the game breaker. I dont see Schenn as anything more than a #3 at best. Myers can be that #1 still. I see flashes of it and lately he has been playing a lot better. He was also hurt the beginning of the year.

I'm not making excuses for his play, but I see the better upside and a higher chance of reaching a better level then Schenn.

Both are frustrating to watch lately and have the potential to be much better imo. Went with Schenn though

Myers has looked improved since ruff was fired, I would never consider trading him for schenn despite him being inconsistent this season

Myers has just collapsed as a hockey player. He has a much more dynamic game, but when it does nothing but hurt you.. It doesn't matter.

I'll take Luke because I know that when he's on his game and keeping it simple, he's an absolute beast.
