dealing with partner who likes the enemy??

im very fortunate that my wife, when she met me came with 'a clean slate' as far as hockey is concerned. but i wonder how the heck do you deal with your 'significant other' who loves the bruins or leafs??

especially a bruins and habsfan.. how can you co-exist during a game?? i remember older bruins games on center ice showed a habs girl and a bruins guy going into game together. i see how passionately my wife gets when we play the bruins and how she starts dropping sweet word bombs and i think...if i was a bruins fan i would need to sleep with 1 eye open.

so there you go peeps..are you a divided hockey family?? do you know someone who is?? how do you make it work during the game??

Love overcomes all.

If/when the love is gone, find a different girlfriend who either ignores hockey or is a Habs fan.

It's nice to cheer games with someone but even better when you can needle your significant other on how their team lost. Just don't go overboard.

My girlfriend is a Habs fan so I got lucky. But back when Halak was around, we would literally have arguments over who was the better goalie, she was a Halak fan and I was (still am) a Price fan. I mean, we fought more about Halak/Price than we did about our own relationship. Seeing as Price is still with the Habs, I consider that a win for me. Maybe the only argument I will ever win between her and I.

If we ever do argue I always end the argument with "Yeah, well Halak got traded!"

This has nothing to do with a partner, but anyways....

My father was a Bruins fan. My brothers and I grew up Habs fans. Not sure how that happened. When I was younger, Dad would tease me a lot whenever the Bruins eliminated the Habs. My Dad loved to pick on people (not just about hockey), and he was aces at it. He knew how to push your buttons. I loved my father, but at the same time, my hatred for Boston is doubly fierce because of him.

I don't know if I could have a partner who cheered for the enemy.

My wife is a moderate Leaf fan - she thinks she's passionate but she really has no idea about hockey passion (love her, though). She had little choice - raised in Toronto with older brothers. We don't watch Hab-Leaf games together but the Habs have become her second favourite team.

My advice, if you get married, forget your wife and focus on the kids. Before having kids I thought that I would let them cheer for whatever team they wanted to. After having kids, and living here in the belly of the beast, I threw that out the window and steered them in the right direction. Having someone to celebrate the good times with is priceless. And I honestly believe that my wife would easily prefer a Hab Stanley Cup over a Leaf one (perish the thought), just due to the sheer joy that our household would generate.

Then he taught you well..

To answer the OP; I say it depends on a wide range of sociological and interpersonal nuances. But I think I can try to sum them up with this question:

what's her cup size?

Funny story. Maybe not funny.

A guy at work said he couldn't watch Boston/Montreal game a couple of weeks ago because he was watching "La Voix" (French version of the Voice) with his girlfriend.

Didn't go well with the other boys at work.

I'd rather have a significant other who is a fan of the enemy than have one with complete disinterest in hockey !
