That was one of the more exciting shootouts I've seen in a while.

Sometimes I forget how truly awesome Hossa is.

I just don't get how Carolina can be so bad. I know they've had some injuries, but they're playing like an ECHL team.

It's def nice when most shooters actually get a shot off. There have been a few in the last week where no one got anything close.

Everything fell apart when Ward went down in early March. After that Ellis got injured and they had to rely on the 3rd stringer for too long (not many teams can pull that off). Add in the injuries to the D and the 2nd line going quiet and you have a recipe for disaster.

Which of their D is injured (honestly curious)? I know about the brutal Pitkanen injury.

Browsing the Carolina forum, it seems some are starting to be disappointed in Jordan Staal's play. Haven't seen too many of their games, but Staal doesn't seem to be producing very much. He's putting up the kind of numbers on their 2nd line that he used to on our 3rd.

Losing Faulk really hurt them. The guy is massively underrated and while he's not Letang, he's THEIR Letang if you catch my meaning.

Staal will always be a goober I guess. As valuable as he was to this team, and as much as I appreciated his presence, he always left me wanting just a little more. Offensively, he was like Chinese food, and I think 'Canes fans are getting a taste of what some of us warned them about.

I'm not going to bring up the old argument again just because there's a Shero thread up, but after watching Toews for the thousandth time tonight, I STILL don't get why Shero picked Staal over him.

Like Mtl noted losing Faulk really hit them hard. Pitkanen went down in early March as well and while he didn't miss as much as Faulk, he didn't really seem to come back 100% either. Of course now he's gone for the rest of the season. The other night vs the Caps their D included

Brett Bellemore -playing in his 6th game
Marc-Andre Bergeron- newly acquired from TB
Joe Corvo
Tim Gleason
Jay Harrison
Joni Pitkanen- who got injured
Bobby Sanguinetti

Staal has been meh. He started out well enough on offense, but his defensive game isn't what I recall when he was a Penguin. Just like some of his teammates, think Jeff Skinner, they just never found real consistency beyond the 1st line. Something is missing from his game and maybe he's still trying to find chemistry in a trying season for Carolina. Hard to say, but I think we'll know more next year (barring another hideous injury season for the Canes)

Too little too late for Tampa. They'll just spend the rest of the season trying to feed Stamkos points so he can win the Art Ross at this point.

Kind of sorry to hear that, actually. I have no ill will against Jordan at all. I do think it's a bad idea to count on him to create offense, though. He'll get his share of goals but he never struck me as being particularly creative, which is why having him on the 3rd line here was ideal. He had the more defensive role where he excelled and he was able to get some offense on the 3rd line as well. IMO having him on a scoring line was a disappointment waiting to happen. I always thought he was pretty underrated outside of Pittsburgh for the role that he had here but no doubt he has his limitations as well.

I get a sick feeling that Philadelphia are going to make it into the play-offs as the 8th seed and knock us out.

Yeah, I'm more optimistic as well. Philly was the perfect storm last year of being a really good team and knowing how to knock the Penguins off of their game. This year they're not as good, they have some serious injuries, and the Pens have more or less learned to just skate away from the post-whistle shenanigans. Not saying it couldn't happen but if the Flyers squeak in and the Pens play them I'd put my money on the Pens.

Flyers didn't upgrade from trade deadline.

We have Morrow, Murray, Iginla and Jokinen. We have much better leadership right now. I don't think we'll make stupid penalites in playoffs like last year. I'm more worried about Boston.

The tragic number for both Winnipeg and Nashville is 18. (i.e. points lost by them and/or gained by No. 8 seed)

Way to go, Winnipeg. What a choke job.

I'll be surprised if the Devils miss now that Brodeur is back.

Flyers didn't upgrade period

They lost Jagr and JVR in the summer and replaced them with an aging Fedotenko and Gagne. And they still have Bryzgalov

Don't forget they have Mason too! Struggling goaltenders always find ways to revitalize their careers in Philadelphia!

I really think Bryz is better than his numbers. He was spectacular on a D-first team like Phoenix and he looks awful on a bad defensive team like Philly. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. I think Fleury is the same way - rarely as bad as his numbers would lead you to believe and if he was on an extremely defensive-minded team he'd be putting up numbers near the top of the league. I think Fleury has more natural talent than Bryz but I think they suffer from the same afflictions.

Mason, on the other hand, is going to get destroyed there. Outside of his exceptional rookie season he's looked like ****.

Yeah let's not under estimate the Flyers. They are now on a 4 game winning streak and it looks like they have a shot at the playoffs. They are still not a team I want to be facing in round 1.
