FC's March Ranking for 2013 NHL Draft

Didn't see this posted yet so I'll throw it up. We released our March ranking for the 2013 NHL Draft.

Not a lot of changes in the names. In fact only one new player in the full top-30. A little shuffling in the top-10 though.

Quote:
Rank / Pos. / Name / Team / League / Ht / Wt /

1). D Seth Jones, Portland, WHL, 6-4, 205
2). RW/C Nathan MacKinnon, Halifax, QMJHL, 6-0, 180
3). C/LW Jonathan Drouin, Halifax, QMJHL, 5-11, 175
4). C Aleksander Barkov, Tappara, SM-liiga, 6-2, 205
5). D Darnell Nurse, Sault Ste. Marie, OHL, 6-4, 185
6). C Elias Lindholm, Brynas, Elitserien, 6-0, 185
7). C Sean Monahan, Ottawa, OHL, 6-2, 195
8). LW/C Valeri Nichushkin, Traktor Chelyabinsk, KHL, 6-3, 175
9). LW Hunter Shinkaruk, Medicine Hat, WHL, 5-11, 175
10). D Rasmus Ristolainen, TPS, SM-Liiga, 6-3, 205

Wow, MacKinnon is only 6'0 ? I thought he was 6'3 for some reason.

Is this ranking based on skill alone and not outside influences ? Like Nichuskin's deal in Russia ?

He's at least 6'0" I think. Might be a touch over. I'm 6'0" and standing beside him he looks a tad bit taller than me.

elite prospects has him at 5'11...and that's usually pretty accurate.

eta...the mooseheads website lists him at 5'11, too..and if anything the team websites exaggerate their players' sizes.

When was the last time they took his height? He's 17 years old, so it's possible he could have grown a bit since then.

Nurse at #5? Granted I haven't looked at the rankings in a while, but the last time I did he was a mid 1st round pick. The kid must be having a big year.

Darnell Nurse continues to rise, I'd say 5 is the highest he'll get as that top 4 is pretty entrenched if you ask me.

I would be surprised if he went 5th. 6-9 is more logical.

Lack of Jason Dickinson is greatly unsetttling and questionable.

Nice to see Zykov so high. He deserves it.

I love seeing Connor Hurley in the top-30, it's a shame not many people know about him..

Who?

Zykov has top-10 skill and I think any team that gets him is getting a gem. Wicked shot.

Jason Dickinson of the Guelph Storm. As of CSS' January list, they have him as the #16 North American Skater.. ahead of Curtis Lazar, Nikita Zadorov, Kerby Rychel, Max Domi. But considering this is CSS, I wouldn't look too far into that.

He's strong on the PK and isn't afraid to block shots. He has solid stick-handling abilities and is a great skater. He could put on a bit more weight, not much though (currently 176 at 6'2".)
I could see him being a 2nd line winger at most.. Could be a 25-30 pick come June, but might slip to the 2nd round.

I think he is way too highly rated in another list, which only makes his absence from here conspicuous.

You ask me who looks like a better prospect now, I'd say Baptiste (1 inch shorter, far stockier), better skater, better scorer and he's a fifth rounder?

Any of the OHL draft guys listed round 3 to 5 I find just as good as Dickinson. No idea why he is so high.

He's had 9 goals since November 2nd, that does not exactly endear him to the scouts. His offense has dropped off the map in the second half of the year. He was riding a great start to the year (19 in 17 games) and has followed that up with 28 in his next 49. That hardly screams first round.

This. As far as I know his height listing hasn't changed in close to a year at the least. Drouin is within quarters of inches +/- of 5'11" and at the start of the season until now Mac has been noticably taller. And as other poster buddy said, 6' and Mac's a bit taller. I've found the height/weight attributes odd this year actually for this reason
