We also have 50 players signed as of now with the Fallstrom signing, I believe. He would have been an awesome addition though, would add to our like 60% team faceoff win average and he's great defensively, something Kelly's absence definitely brings a need for... Great pickup.

Worst comes to worst he can teach Eller, Galchenyuk, Plekanec, Desharnais and whatever other centre we bring up how to actually win a ****ing draw.

Good pick-up he knows the environment having already played there and he's definitely better in that 4th line center role than White who takes a million penalties.

I think this is why the Hab's picked him up. Helps with the PK and faceoffs, 2 weaknesses on the team. He played well first time around, and played game 7 v. Bruins while concussed (Ference cheapshot). He was good in that series

He's apparently well liked by the habs players left who played with him. He's also great with youngsters and could potentially help out everyone, but more importantly Galchenyuk and Eller on draws.

i wanna see some toughness and grit on our 4th line.. not more centers...
especially when we had Nokelainen that was good for face offs..
Cmon Bergy bring some grit, Moen is the one not doing the job not Dumont!

Fast skater still, which is why fans think he's useful. Still good at faceoffs. His penalty killing is also overrated One of the reasons we are 8% points lower than last year imo. Can't block shots, can't throw the body, just overall a useless player.

I know some rangers fans will disagree with me here because he gives effort every game, but at this point anyone can produce more than him pretty much, unless it's stu bickel.
I wouldn't say that Halpern was one of the reasons why the Rangers' PK isn't as good this season. I'd say a legit reason, as it has been beaten to death but it's true, is the loss of the players in the Nash trade and Prust and Fedotenko walking. All those players were PK'ers and were good bottom-six'ers. Most of the Rangers' depth from last season is now gone.

It's a good claim for Montreal. Like Lavoie said before the Sabres-Habs game, Halpern's going to be playing a lot for Montreal and was claimed to help the team in two struggling areas: the PK and at faceoffs. To top it off he's played there before and he's a leader and well-liked. Wish Buffalo could have claimed him.

I do think the Rangers must be up to something though, as they usually are this time of year. Doesn't make much sense to waive a bottom-six PK'er and good faceoff-man when your team hasn't been the best in any of those areas. Boyle's better but still, Halpern wasn't a bad player for the Rangers. Also doesn't make sense Nokelainen was sent down by the Habs when he offers a lot that Halpern does (even a right-handed shot) if they were looking for someone to help improve those areas. Would've thought Nokelainen would never had been waived if that was the case but they must have liked Halpern.

Very sharp pickup for Montreal. Halpern's underlying numbers are good. An underrated and no cost way to improve your team.

I agree with you 100 %. Did anyone watch the Bruins leafs game. The Bruins didn't throw a check in the second period. Come Wednesday they will be running around running everyone of our guys. Thornton never opened his mouth because he's scared to death of McLaren. No sauce from Marchand tonite. The Bruins will never allow Chara to go with Mclaren for obvious reasons. Chara was a perfect gentleman tonite. Where was Lucic and his big hits tonite? Oh he stuck to playing hockey tonite. What did we get ? **** Halpern. We need one guy that can easily take Thornton and McQuaid and that will stop them from running our guys.

Sooner or later were gonna come out of one of the Bruin games with a coupla serious injuries. If its to one of the kids like Galyenchuk, their development is gonna take a major hit. What will we do about it? Complain to the league. We need two guys like the leafs have that will stick up for our players. You just watch how they become the tough bad Bruins on Wednesday compared to the ****ing ringette players that they were tonite. I love the job Bergevin is doing but the longer he lets this go he is endangering our players.

Don't like this move for the Rangers at all. Halpern played well for us.

Halpern is an ideal 4th line center. Do not know why the Rangers put him on waiver. Good pick up for the Habs.

Solid pick-up for us! He's made a huge impact already and IMO is earning himself a new 1 year contract.

Because we needed to clear a contract and we knew that he would get picked up by someone. He's a nice player, good pker, but we can live without him in that role.

this...

plus I believe the Ranger already have Boyle who is good for faceoffs, Mtl didn't have any faceoff men, specially right handed ones. So Halpern brings a little from to the table in terms of fitting what Mtl needs than he did for the Rangers.

Needed to clear a contract, was the most likely depth guy of ours to get picked off waivers. Needed that contract to sign Zuccarello, Halperns a solid 4th line guy but he creates no offense whatsoever so we needed to take the chance with Zuc.

He's created a crapload of offense in MTL. He has a couple "3rd assists" already, plus 2 points in 6 games. Plus he's missed at least two goals.

He's flying. TSN guys said they spoke with him and he was just pumped to be getting more minutes. Said he gets into the game more and it improves everything for him.

How come they didn't try to trade him to Montreal for a 3rd or 4th?

how many waiver players are returning a 3rd or 4th? montreal would have had one of the last waiver claims and he made it past most of the nhl before the habs picked him up.
