I thought before the draft started that regardless of who the Bears picked, this is what I'd see in this thread.

I was not disappointed.

I wouldn't say I'm excited about Long, but I'm fine with the pick.

Pretty much exactly how I feel.

Care to explain why you are fine with this pick?

20th overall on a project who has a lot of red flags

I liked Chandler Jones a lot. It may be a mistake to take McClellin over Jones but that doesn't make McClellin bad. I still think McClellin can be really good, he had an incredible burst, I'm most worried about his concussion history

He also has a lot of promise.

I'd say that's the easiest way to put it.

There is a problem with judging "BAD DRAFT" two minutes after a pick is made, you know.

He's also NOT A PROJECT. He's a starting guard who will move to tackle. Projects don't play or play bad.

BWC you are hilarious, when I said I wanted a DT tonight you said that would be a bad pick, then lamented when the Vikes took Floyd after the Bears passed on him

Lots of people in this thread looking at magazines with player rankings and deciding if a pick is good or not.

Long is actually a lot like Chandler Jones. Awesome measurables, great combine, not a lot of college production, great bloodlines

I'll be the 1st to admit that I really don't follow this crap much. My only question is whether Long would've been there in the 2nd. A lot of what I've seen seems like this was a stretch and they could've had Ogletorp today and him tomorrow. Was that possible, in the opinions of the objective posters here, you know who you are (and aren't).

Yeah it may not be the most exciting pick, but I'm fine with it. It's funny how Bears fans constantly complain about the OL, then get pissed when they draft one.

It's hard to tell. People really have no idea where guys grade out on teams boards

I guarantee the Cowboys would have taken him at 31.

@MattBowen41: No...Long has too much athletic ability. He wouldn't be there for #Bears in 2nd. RT @MrL20: @MattBowen41 Is Kyle Long on the board at #50?

Bears clearly needed OT so Im fine with the pick. I had Long on my short list. So many holes to fill but O line is obviously the greatest need. Great bloodlines. Doubt Long would be at 50 but I dont follow this closely.

They clearly needed OL help last year and Emery ignored it

I generally trust Bowen on this ****..he just seems more reliable to me than literally anyone else in the industry.

I am not a twitter person but Bowen didn't seem to like this pick if I am reading his exchange with a Hawk fan right

@CTwice All depends on how you look at it, Chris. I see the talent there with DT, CB at 20. Just my opinion.

Matt Bowen ‏@MattBowen41 1h
No...#Bears need O-Line help. But they also left some good options on the board. RT @AuroraAtheist: @MattBowen41 is Long an awful pick?

Matt Bowen ‏@MattBowen41 1h
#Bears left talent on the board at DT, CB, TE. RT @giftedorganist: @MattBowen41 TOO many proven difference makers left on the board

Matt Bowen ‏@MattBowen41 1h
@Blackhawks1963 Never said he couldn't be a player. I saw better options. Scout I just talked liked his talent, but he needs time

Matt Bowen ‏@MattBowen41 1h
@Blackhawks1963 Two DTs (Floyd, Williams) that had high grades on the board plus the talent at CB. You don't see them as a fit?

Right, that's pretty much what I think.

Do I hate the pick? No, because I think they got a good player.

Do I think they could've wound up with 2 good players instead? Yes, I do.

Not really. Minnesota has a lot of draft picks this draft and next draft. (3) 3rd Round Picks, (3) 4th Round Picks and I think like (4-5) 7th round picks this year and next year combined. You only have so many slots. Minnesota really didn't up much in terms of losing draft picks or value /shrug.

As for the Bears, not sure about this pick but they needed o-line help badly.
