"Breaking news: Sabres go on historic run, winning their last 9 games to secure the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference!"

My worst nightmare.

the problem is that we play such passive hockey that we will get to OT quite often and pick up loser points.

I am holding on to hope that we lose 5 of the last 9 (@ WPG, PHI, TAMPA, @PIT, NYR)

I highly doubt we beat the Islanders at home either, they seem to always give us fits.

Thanks guys! I actually really enjoy putting these together. Gives me some entertainment when dealing with this Sabres season. We just gotta keep hope alive that we somehow end up with a pick in the 5-7 range. We're not getting top 3 unless we win the lottery, 4th will most likely go to Carolina, so between 5-7 will most likely be our spot if we luck out.

So that I can understand the mindset of this faction better, what level of postseason success would be necessary to soothe the sting of not getting a lottery pick?

IF we were to somehow make the playoffs, I'd be soothed by a first round win. I'd be even more pissed if we made it in and were one and done, than if we just made it to 9th/10th.

A series win, and not getting swept in round 2.

This is my longshot dream scenario. Unfortunately, I think the Wild are going to continue to finish strong. Everything been coming together for them and now they have Pominville to augment the team in all phases and situations.

Considering it'd probably be against Pittsburgh... taking it to game 7 I guess.

At minimum, a competitive 1st round series going 6 or 7 games.

IIRC, they were on a prolonged losing streak before last night. They've got a tough week coming up with home dates against the white-hot Blues and the Blackhawks. Hopefully they can drop two more.

What a rollercoaster this thread is from start to finish

Begining - the tank is over (picking between 10-14)

Middle - almost gauranteed a top 5 pick

End - march to 9th

Honestly, with 3 games left we could be picking 11th and 3 games later that could be 4th, vise versa.

May go on a historic run, but it ends in 9th instead, short of their goal and close enough to screw future plans.

Meh, those teams seem too far gone for us at this point. Canes/B's is the big one tonight for the tank.

I've given up on passing them. With no real goalie, a bad defense, and injuries piling up, Carolina is getting a top 5 pick.

The Sabres best chance is most likely to get the 5th pick. They will finish somewhere between 5-10 most likely.

WTF happened to the Canes? They looked so dominant early on (especially when they played us).

Cam Ward got hurt. Since he got hurt, they've gone 4-11-1. After they lose to Boston tonight, they'll be 1-9 in their last 10.

Carolina

Last 10

1-8-1

That is a damn fine tank there.
Down 4-0 halfway through the game with the Bruins.

It's worse than that. 1-10-1 in their last twelve. Looking to make in 1-11-1 in their last 13. They are tanking with authority,

If Miller were to get hurt, I imagine we'd be close to that. But Miller's been on fire the past couple games, I think I saw that he has around a .950 save % in the past couple games.

The thing is a top prospect probably won't do hole lot to improve Carolina, they are already extremly top heavy on forward.

If they get forth to they pick Barkov when they have Staal and Staal down the middle for the next eternity? Reading their boards they really want a Dman.
