Jason Herter, who coached the Fargo Force of the USHL before becoming an assistant at Minnesota-Duluth, first met Cooper at Notre Dame High School in Saskatchewan and watched him succeed at every level. He said it’s not by accident.
“I don’t know what NHL guys think about who they look for in coaches, but I can just tell you about Jon himself, what I think, being a colleague, and that is, whatever it is, he’s got it,” Herter said.
“Whether it’s how he manages relationships between the team, how he delivers his message to the team, everybody I know that’s played for him in the past and present that I’ve talked to absolutely loved playing hockey for Jon Cooper. I don’t know how much of a [tough guy] he is or not, but his message gets across to the players no matter what level it is.
“There’s a lot of good coaches out there. I just think you’re talking about a guy who has a track record and a good situation to go to,” Herter said. “I think he’d do a heck of a job. He’ll find a way. He’s that kind of kid.”
Sheesh, I havent been this excited for Lightning twitter updates in a long time. Who's it gonna be. The young "not-Boucher" Cooper, the grizzled North East Div. veteran in Ruff, or the dark horse Jacques Martin?
I'd put my money on Lindy Ruff. SY's interview yesterday on Sportsnet sounded like he already knew who the coach was since he said "naming" then changed and said "hiring".. That would seem to indicate that the coach in question isn't currently employed. I could always see Ruff in Tampa ..
Sorry. I will try not to irritate you. You obviously have watched every game, know every stat and feel comfortable to say that Guy Boucher was incompetent. I am not of your opinion. It has been reported for weeks that there might be trouble brewing. In that regard, several reliable hockey sources got it right. I only watch the Lightning because of your GM, who is loved by all in our town. "Our boards"? Seriously? You think alot of yourself.

That is the way that it is, cut throat stuff. You somehow forgot or never knew that MY CITY has a love for YOUR GM, OUR Captain. Your team has a following in MY CITY, small but present. That is why guys like me pay $250 a month cable bills to watch players or teams that we like. You can have "YOUR BOARD". I will still watch Tampa Bay. I can still have an opinion. I won't name the players that should not be, or are not ready to be in the NHL. A couple of names have been mentioned, take it from there. This naming the players only incites the argument that he did this or has done that and they make the sun shine on a rainy day. Bravo Sierra! They lack some pieces to be real competitive. That is Stevies job to get those pieces. It didn't happen for Guy Boucher. Stevie may or may not deliver those pieces in the future. Who knows? A coach can only do so much with so little. It is like trying to paint the house with 1 gallon of paint. Not happening. Guy Boucher may not have been a success in Tampa Bay, but he was in Hamilton and he will be in the NHL, albeit with a different team.

Don't sweat it dude - we're just a little sensitive with the way things have gone this year.
Just out of curiosity, why is everyone dreading Ruff coming in? He was pretty damn successful and was with the same franchise for a million years.
If by success you mean having some stacked rosters and not really getting anywhere with them, absolutely. The goal is to win a cup, not get "division winner" banners. He had the GM by the ear and got most everything he wanted for a long time and could never do anything with it.
There's something about Ruff that I'm just not sold on. He had some pretty good teams for a lot of his time in Buffalo including TWO elite goaltenders and never won a Cup. His teams the past few years haven't been very physical and had some of the same problems the Lightning had under Boucher. Still, experience is over-valued here.
Oh and for the record - I absolutely lay some of the blame on Steve. He put this roster together, he shoulders the blame, just like everyone else.
I hope to god its not Lindy Ruff. Awful.
The problem was we weren't saying there was no blame on SFY or the rest of the organization or that Guy was a bad coach - simply that he lost the room. That poster has been coming here and accusing us of saying things we never said, in addition to the fact that the blame for Boucher's firing is entirely on SFY's incompetencies as a GM.

If you're going to make an intelligent conversation, by all means please post. If you're going to say who was at fault without anything backing it up and tell us what our organization should do when you have no background knowledge of said organization, please keep that to the main boards.
