Something that I know that will be popular:

The case against Tampa Bay Lightning goalie coach Frantz Jean.
http://www.rawcharge.com/2013/4/26/4...-goalie-issues

Quote:
Meanwhile, however, the blocking, on-your-knees, elbows tight, "efficient butterfly" paradigm has taken over all levels of hockey in North America, particularly in the junior ranks from which Frantz Jean comes. An over-reliance on technique has made robo-goalies common in many quarters, as young goaltenders are schooled in the method without being given the chance to develop their instincts. One reason that Sweden and Finland are producing so many successful NHL goalies is that they teach technique without being slave to it.
I cannot tell you how much I agree with this statement. Not even involving the TBL or Frantz Jean.

Quote:
Let us not forget that Frantz Jean has had as much time to make this work as Guy Boucher had.

I agree 110% with that article. Very intelligently written and great citing of facts and statistics to prove FJ's ineptitude when it comes to coaching these goaltenders up to their best. How Yzerman can overlook that every GT that has been here has had better numbers both before AND after being here is beyond me. This isn't just one guy either, this is every single one that has been here since 2010! Get the hint SY! Frantz is a terrible GT coach.

In reality, what's Steve supposed to say? "Yeah, I plan on getting rid of him"? No. We all know that's not how he operates. So we will see what the summer holds in store for us.

Great article btw. The examples of successes from FJ's school of thought, e.g. Luongo, Lundy, etc, are becoming more rare in my mind. The most successful recent goalies, especially those from Europe, have a very antithetical style to Jean's teaching. I'm talking about Fasth, Niemi, etc, and those are much smaller guys. Taking up a whole lot less net than BB or Lindy. They have to use more movement but in that movement, you can better control rebounds on tough shots when your timing is right... which helps make up for a porous defense.

The big body blocking style FJ likes, Jiggy and his ilk, are going the way of the dodo gradually.

This.

SFY keeps saying that FJ is 'very professional', and I think that's ****ing code for something, but saying that FJ hasn't had a chance really paints him into a corner.

Sure, but he already said that FJ will stay for next season - much like the assistants? If his plan is to can him why talk about the coaching staff at all at this point in time?

Well, we just got the two biggest goalies in the league which rather shows that Yzerman shares FJ's philosophy on goaltending.

If a journalist asks SFY what the future of the assistants are, he's got to address that somehow.

He could (politely) decline to answer or just stall said journalist. This doesn't mean that he won't be able to communicate his plans internally (i. e. "Hey FJ, here's your contract extension").

But he decided to make public that FJ will (most likely) be part of the staff for next season. I don't think Yzerman is secretly planning on firing him after such an announcement - that doesn't make any sense.

That's a possibility.

SFY could have said something along the lines of that Jon Cooper, JBB, and himself, etc. would look at the makeup of the coaching staff during the offseason and decide then if any changes needed to be made.

Or FJ could be so professional that he and the Lightning would be 'unable to come to an agreement on an extension'.

That actually looks like Cooper will be able to bring in his own staff if he can convince Yzerman that they are better than the current one.

That in and of itself is not a fatal flaw. However, if you're going to use a big pair of goalies, you MUST have defense who can clear out the crease and control loose pucks/rebounds down low. Can our D do that at this point? Not even close.

Cristodero had a chat with people the other day I guess. Thought I'd look it over.

Quote:
Comment From Deb
They looking at getting a new goalie coach?
12:07
Damian Cristodero: No, as we wrote a couple weeks ago, Yzerman said he wants Frantz Jean back, and Jean says he sees no reason he won't be back. ... Guess thing could change if Cooper sees strongly otherwise, but no indication of that, and Yzerman was pretty specific.
EDIT: This is actually very informational. Lots of good question with good answers.

http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/lightn...todero/2118099

EDIT2: Wish I could've gotten in on the chat. Some people started to get on his nerves and he started to get a little snappy at the end, which was kind of humorous. Anyway, I would've asked him if he read HF at all He also really advocated Yandle as a player (or a player of his type) that the Lightning really needs. I would've asked him to explain why... We need defensive D in my opinion, not offensive. Hopefully he does it again soon.

Jon Cooper goes house hunting, potentially shows the exterior of the house he'll live in for some reason. Makes fapping reference.

There should be a poll which house we like the best, and the one that wins he has to buy.
