San Jose - Edmonton

M. Havlat
R. Clowe
T. Greiss
T. Wingels

A. Hemsky
N. Khabibulin
T. Hartikainen
E. Belanger
2013 2nd round pick (with the way the oilers are playing likely going to be close to a late 1st)

Basically a trade with two teams that are struggling lately and with players that could use a change of scenery.

How does this help the Oilers in the future, Oilers pass as would the Sharks.

Why would either team do this? It's terrible for both sides.

Oilers don't do that. Gagner has been doing great for them. Additionally, their center depth is very shallow. The only way they move Gagner is to upgrade in the center position.

Why would you want Gagner? He's a great player this year, but one would think the Sharks wouldn't need him with Thornton, Pavelski and Couture. Gagner isn't nearly as effective on the wing, so he would seem redundant to me.

Plus, its not nearly enough. Clowe is a UFA, has played poor all season, and Edmonton isn`t a playoff team so the value of Clowe to them is near nothing unless he is re-signed. Wingels and a 2nd aren't enough for Gagner.

Yeah, no clue. Gagner isn't worth it to us, and you guys can't trade him without getting a top-6 center back. Neither side touches it.

I'd do it if it was a 2nd and a 3rd Minus Belanger

Trading Hemsky for Havlat is a lateral move for us.

How the heck does Belanger, Khabi, and Hartikainen help us going forward? What roles do they play?

Wingels has been great for us. He's one of the few forwards that has contributed all season.

If Clowe is being traded to somebody, it would be a playoff contender. Edmonton is not one of the suitors.
