Freddie Pettersson

I see Freddie Pettersson is back on the Swedish team after a stint in the KHL. He scored again.

Always thought the undersized but energetic forward would be a great fit for the Red Wings ... the kind of guy who could play with Helm or Zetterberg... energy line or skill line.

Was stunned he didn't make the Thrashers a few years ago after a great camp. Never got a shot.

How is his game today. Do you see an NHL future for Freddie?

Don't think so. He doesn't want to play on a 4th line in the NHL. That's what he said when he returned from Atlanta/Chicago in 2012. He probably wouldn't do another 2-way deal and I don't think anyone wants to give him a 1-way.

Yeah, i see him as a legit 3rd line guy. Good speed. Enough skill and intelligence. Totally non-stop motor.
If the Wings didn't have a bunch of old guys under contract, I'd love to add him to our roster

Cashed in big time on his KHL deal, could definitely see him take a a two-way deal and try the AHL route again because he really wants to play in the NHL.

Pettersson played on 7 minutes or so, but he added two more assists to his totals

Has there ever been a guy signed in the NHL off of a decent showing at the WC?

Not as soft as the lineup we've currently got.

A line of Pettersson Helm Tootoo isn't soft

My assessment of FP isn't based on WC games that I haven't seen.

I always had a soft spot for Pettersson (except for during the playoffs 08/09), I always thought he would do okay if he got the chance to play in the NHL. Hopefully he can get another shot in the future.

Quite often during the late 90s and early 00s. Every team has a scout there, except the teams that don't focus at all on European players.

I think his stellar game in NLA was the main reason he got the contract.

Pettersson is one of those guys you can't dislike.

Hockey is a multi-billion industry, I think teams got a pretty good track of players before they make it to the WCH's...

...But, the WCH's is definitely a tremendous yard stick for a prospect from Europe. It is -- definitely -- the norm that a kid that got what it takes to make it in the NHL excels in the WCH's, while others who are stars in the national league but doesn't have "it" struggles in international competition.

Pettersson got a ton of hockey in him, but at a certain level he tends to be marginalized pretty fast.

Awsome goal though. Classic.

I also think its a great opertunity to watch NHLers outside their normal comfort box.

Yeah, but I don't think he was totally unknown to them. I think many have known about his skills for a while.

Edit: Olas posts explains it good.

Nice slapper on the shoot goal. Don't see that too often.
