Pitt
Montreal
Wash
Boston
Toronto
NYI
Ottawa
NYR

Pitt-Rang: Pitt
Mont-Ott: Mont
Wash-NYI: NYI
Bos-Tor: Bos

Rd 2
Pitt-NYI:NYI
Bos-Mon: Mon

Rd 3
NYI-Mon

Just like 93.... I know a lot of stars would have to align for this to happen, including an upset of the Pens.... but I can see the Islanders catching Ottawa, and I think they could beat Washington. I would just hope the Montreal series has a different outcome.
I would also hope Matt Hendricks doesn't cheap shot Johnny T after he scores the series clincher in game 6 separating his shoulder.

If we can pull 3 or 4 points in the next 2 games, and the Rag$ lose to the Leafs. We could really start to distance ourselves on Saturday. This is a really key 3 game stretch for us. If they come out with 4 or 5 points in the next 3, they are going to be riding high with confidence for the last 6 games.

Add Ottawa to the mix now. If we win tonight and they lose then things get REALLY interesting.

The Leafs play the Ranger$ tomorrow and then they play the Devils twice again next week. As long as those game stay in regulation and the Isles do their job, the Isles will be in a great spot.

Let's go Isles, Buffalo, Montreal, Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh!

If all those go Isles way % chance of in playoff goes up to 78.4%

In a perfect world I would like to see the sens continue to spiral down and the isles take the 6 seed and take on Washington or Winnepeg, which to be honest I think the isles could take either of them (would be more confident playing against the jets, as Pavelec has 0 playoff experience)
I think we can beat WPG over 7 games...WASH would be a tight series for us I think. They are a big team...we dont do that well with physical, big teams.

OTT has a crappy matchup tonight. Have to go face Big Ben Bishop tonight in his new home. I can see them getting beat. I think we need 4 of the next 6 pts. 2 of those need to be from the NYR. A win tonight is huge. All but finishes Philly...definately would rather play a deflated Flyers team on the 25th then one that thinks they still have a shot.

*At the start of this thread we were thinking 10-4-2 (22 points) would probably get us there. We are 5-1-1 since then (11 points), so 9 games left and the hope of 11 points. I guess now we are looking at 5-3-1.
No matter how the record goes. We all think we need around 9 to 10 pts.
We could go 0 0 9 and get 9 points.
4 4 1 is not out of reach.
9 is very close IMO. I feel like if we get 11 pts were safe.

That's actually false, ROW wins make a big difference. The Islanders are 2 points ahead of the Devils but if we tie in points were in there out. Also the Rangers hold the tiebreaker's over us in every other way because we are tied in ROW. However if we win tonight in regulation or OT and the Rangers win tomorrow in a SO we actually take over the 7 seed.

So tonight's matchups (from lesser to bigger impact):

Pitt vs Carolina- Carolina has really fallen out of the race but better to be safe than sorry

Montreal vs Washington- even though the caps have taken third place, if they were to fall out, they would be on the Isles' tails. Go Habs!

Tampa Bay vs Ottawa- Ben Bishop faces his former team. Tampa is in the same situation as Carolina and with the Isles 2 points back of Ottawa, this is a pretty important game. Go Bolts!

Buffalo vs Winnipeg- Now this one is a tough one. Winnipeg is two points back but with 40 games and Buffalo is climbing up the standings with 38 points at 39 games. Go No Overtime!

And of course....
Islanders vs Flyers- This is a MUST MUST MUST MUST win for the Isles. They need to take advantage of a banged up Flyers team. Let's go Islanders!

The Winnipeg-Buffalo game is very tough. Worst possible outcome is the game going to OT. That would be very very bad. But who to root for? Winnipeg 2 points behind but with an extra game played? Or Buffalo 4 points back with the same amount of games? Buffalo has been playing well so I feel it's important to halt their streak. But if they do lose and we lose, the Jets are tied in points. Grrrrrrrr this one can make you pull your hair out! Just don't go to OT.

Best case scenario for you to be rooting for is for the team that's farther back to get the points. Assuming we win as well, they'll stay just as far back, and the team that was closer to us (Jets) is now farther back. Better to have two teams 4 points back (if we win) than two teams two points back (if we were to lose). Any other result just maintains the status quo.

Buffalo is clearly the play there...in regulation of course. We just need to win as well to keep up our end of the bargain.

I agree with your reasoning. Only reason I was even THINKING about pulling for Winnipeg was that we do have a game in hand on them and Buffalo has been rolling. If they keep winning they could go on a streak. But yes, it does make more sense to pull for Buffalo when you break it down that way.

Whatever... won't mean jack if the Isles don't win. HAVE to take advantage of Philly's injuries and get the 2 points. Anything less than 2 points tonight is devastating with our next game being in Boston.

Gonna be lots of scoreboard watching tonight...
Hoping the Bolts beat the Sens, the Sabres beat the Jets, and the Habs beat the Caps...(all in regulation would be HUGE)
Plus isles need to beat the flyers. If all that goes down, that REEEEEALLY helps

I think the Isles are going to have a convincing win tonight.
Watch them beat BOS and NYR and lose to FLA. That would actually be funny.

Dunno if you guys have seen this yet, but some guy has a website that lists exactly who we need to cheer for and how much a win/loss effects our playoff chances from here on out. They have it for every team but obviously we only care bout the Isles.

Looks like 1 outta the 3 games will definitely go our way.

Winnipeg is winning which essentially knocks Buffalo out of the hunt.

Lightning and the Sens are tied, hopefully the Bolts can pull out a win (even in OT).

Washington is beating the Habs 2-1. Not a huge deal, as I'm pretty sure the Caps will wrap it up pretty soon, but it would be nice to have some extra insurance.

And the pens won, but the Canes were already done.
