If you don't think Pittsburgh overpaid and that's the going rate, we should be able to cash in Ference and McQuaid and their massively sheltered minutes for 4 2nd round picks, which are right in our drafting wheelhouse, haha.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

All our draft picks suck, except the guys we've drafted ... can't trade them!

Anyway, yeah I would do Spooner + Knight + a 1st provided Iginla is open to signing an extension with us. If not Caron plus one of em and a first
hmmm, all that for 3 good years from Jerome?

Any chance we could get Dennis Wideman back for cheap?

For some reason it hasn't changed on my screen, but it's the parade route

He's a good prospect for sure. I wouldn't have given him up for Morrow, but for Iginla? Yup.
I absolutely would give him up for Iginla. Make no mistake about it.

I like Wides, but he's got 4 years left at $5 and a quarter. Not interested in taking that contract on.

Subban is the other "untouchable" that's been speculated by media sources.

Koko doesn't seem like it, if he was offered for Brenden Morrow. Jared Knight could have already gotten a few NHL games just like Spooner, but he has riddled with injuries.

Dennis Wideman? Dennis Wideman of the 5 year, 5.25 per cap hit variety?

Retch. No.

He's a good offensive defenseman. The problem is the contract.

He's also really good at tripping over the blue line.

Yes sir, I think replacing Pandolfo in the lineup with Iginla puts us over the top this year. And having Iginla for a couple more years is gravy.

While I agree it is a lot, and Spooner is great and all, the end result in my opinion would be worth it provided Iginla plays up to par.

Could the bruins use the buyout option on that contract?

Saw that coming.

I think they're sound enough defensively that they can afford to take on a guy who's a bit of a liability in his own zone, but can chip in offensively. Which is why I'd explore taking on M.A. Bergeron. Pair him with Seidenberg or Chara and hide him when you're up one with ten mins left.

If he had a year left, maybe, but he has 4 years left. That'd be a lot of cash to dump for a handful of games and a playoff run.

Scary support for turfing Jay Pandolfo:

Corsi of -18.55 next worst on the team whose played more than a game is Jordan Caron at -10.21

I don't think they're sound defensively at all. They are passable, and improving, but in no way are they in the position to take on Dennis Freaking Wideman.

And that contract seriously gives me gas pains.

I wouldn't mind keeping him on board for another few years. I was always a fan. He struggled when Kessel left but so did the whole team. He was good in the playoffs

Its wouldnt be a big adjustment for him playing here either...
