Blacker is a great D man...I remember him outplaying Gardiner in the rookie tournament, got hurt and then never got a chance.

What happened to his points? I hope he's focusing defensively...because he's a pretty good OFD.

People wanted Gardiner in so badly they felt it was necessary to tear any player down that stood in his way. Typical Leaf fans.

Not going to make excuses for Holzer but we got a glimsp of his potential early on and he was good, it is important to note, he faced the highest quality of competition for D men, second to only Phaneuf. Wonder why people keep slagging the guy when he is a rookie, he's facing tougher players than Gardiner 10 fold.

He hasn't been particularly strong offensively or defensively with the Marlies. He's a work in progress that has the tools to be a solid 2-way defenseman in the NHL sometime in the future.

He's been hard at work under Eakins on his defensive game. His offense is struggling regardless, but that was never a negative in his game. Defensive responisibility was his biggest knock, and over time, improvement is being made. I would say next year at camp is a good time to have a look. This is a good year for him without missing significant time with injury.

It's funny when posters ridicule the fan base in general because they think their opinion is the one truth. Lots of high horse riding going on in here today.

I think Blacker is miscast as an offensive D man, other than one good year with a good Owen Sound team that went to the Memorial Cup, he has never had great numbers as an offensive defenceman. So I would not expect it in the NHL, he's best to concentrate on the D side, I see 5th D top potential max.

Nice confidnce booster for the kid.

jesse's been a pretty big dissappointment as a pro, but has shown some nice improvement the last coupla months.

Doesn't look like his offense will end uo translating to the pro gamr, but he's fast and physical, so if he can keep tightening up his defensive game he has a shot to be an nhler.

Cant for another 6 months bro, stupid 21+ in the US, compared to Montreal.

And my main point was that him and Seguin are good buds... pretty sure they hold each other's hands while getting tattoos

Holzer had his chance but clearly need him to keep working on his game.

This doesn't mean he's done nor does it mean he won't ever a Leafs jersey ever again.

Heck he'll probably be back sometime this season. Right now though, Blacker will get his chance while Holzer keeps trying to find what made him so good at the AHL level.

This is just a bit of a reward to Blacker for his play this year; gets to practice and travel with the big team and maybe see a game or two of action (depending on how long Liles is out for).
I agree with all of this. This is a reward for the hard work Blacker has put in.

The treatment of Komi has been nothing short of a disgrace. Good luck signing free agents now, If I had another option I know I would take it after seeing Liles Komi and Connolly. They had to run Liles and Komi until they found a buyer and didnt now they look bad. Even Connolly should have played even if it were squeezed in over some guy like Brown on the 4th or pressbox awaiting injury. They should have absorbed money (trade) let them play and made the trades but instead they devalued them all. Liles was fine, Komi was fine this year, Connolly is unknown

That proably came of snippy on my part, although unintentionally.

Blacker and Seguin are really close, for sure.

Holzer got a contract, he's part of the Maple Leafs future and ahead of Blacker on the depth chart for that matter as well. The only reason Blacker got the call this time is because he's not even guaranteed to start a game and, at this point, Holzer could use the minutes in the AHL to get his confidence level back up.
