I've never been to one. How long does a concert usually last? Do the bands or singers leave right away after the concert because I want to know if they do autograph sessions afterwards.

I want to go to a Taylor Swift concert in December

Taylor Swift is not going to hang out with you after the concert, no.

It all depends on the band, I would image anywhere between 3-4 hours. Thats how long a normal concert with one headlining band normally lasts.

I saw Dave Matthews (don't ask) last year, and within 10 minutes of the show ending, I was out of the arena, walking down the street as their busses went by.

The larger the act, probably the less time they dawdle around after the show.

You won't find many people in here who have ever been to these "concerts" you speak of.

Can I come with you, Rafa? Afterwards, we could hit up a Justin Bieber concert. There are lots of hot... er, girls at those, so I hear.

Usually the performance by the main act will last anywhere between an hour plus to two hours or more (Springsteen concerts used to clock in at over 3 hours). I'd guess Swift might be in the hour and forty minute range. There is usually but not always a warm-up band who will play for around 45 minutes, and then the headliner follows after a long or short delay to set up the equipment. Warm-up bands, these days, start pretty close to on time, but if the headliner is not employing a warm-up band, the main act will most often come on anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour late, depending on the egos involved. Of course the one time you get to a concert a little late might be when the main band starts on time. So be on the safe side and get there on time.

I have been to a zillion concerts and I don't remember anyone doing an autograph session afterwards. Maybe some country artists at small venues are different (don't know--none of my zillion concerts have been country), but I doubt major acts like Swift would vary from the norm. Usually the band does its final encore, the lights come on, and everybody goes home.

If the concert is scheduled to start at 8:00 PM, you will probably on your way home not much later then by 11:30 PM. Get your Taylor Swift ticket early and have fun.

I met the bass player from Of Montreal once at the bar next door a couple hours later. It was so exciting, I almost bothered to learn his name.

Exactly this. I post a lot of joke topics and this ain't one of them. I'm a fan of Taylor Swift's. So what? She has an Australian tour in December. I live in Perth until I head back stateside in January. I'm not even sure if I can go anyway since I haven't bought a ticket yet.

Thanks for the advice everyone

TSwift is my girl. Ever since I turned 22 that **** has been my jam.

I'm not a big fan of country, but she doesn't count. Plus the ladies love that you like it.

kihei explained it as well as anyone of us could so I'm just gonna say have fun at the T Swift concert! Ignore the haters and those who will poke fun, I went two years back and it was a really, really fun time.

If you actually want to meet her, you'd better sign up for her fan club (I'm assuming she has one). Sometime special meet and greets are made with fan club members, other than that you can probably just forget about it.

I've seen them live once, and I was disappointed. I'd go to another one though just for the hipster girls.

This was my reaction too.

Anyway, yeah, at pop concerts like that there's no way you'll interact with the "artist." I don't know why you would want to go anyway, but oh well.

It had an interesting crowd. For example there was a girl in a ballet tutu, but she wasn't kidding around.
The music though was ok.. until they ****ed up the encore song "In The Flowers", and to me that's unforgivable.

I went to Coldplay concert a couple of years ago and the ticket said the show'll start at 7 so we went down there at around 6:30. They had opening acts for two hours, before Coldplay shows up at 9, and finished their set until 11. So if she has an opening act, look up who the musician is and decide if you want watch them.

And considering the lineup for $60 horrendously looking t-shirts was absolutely abysmal , I'd imagine the autograph sessions would take a frustrating amount of waiting even if Swift does one, which I really doubt she will.

have fun though

I wouldn't recommend just going into a Taylor Swift concert with no experience. GWAR would be a good first concert. Just to get the atmosphere and be more confortable in the show. ICP would be another good one.

I'm seeing JBJ Nov 1 and I don't think he has any opening acts so that should be done by 10 if he gets on at 7:30 lol.

Okay I guess....

If you want her autograph then you'd probably have better luck mailing a SASE request to bigger celebs like Taylor Swift though younger celebs don't do autographs anymore usually. But it's a Taylor Swift concert...what are you worried about, mosh pits? It'll be mostly teen girls and you can just stand near the back without any problem and enjoy it.

If you've never been to a concert then you should probably go to a smaller venue acoustic show. I don't listen to female singer/songwriters usually (I think Taylor Swift is a pop artist anyways if I'm correct) but there's a decently known Scottish one called Amy Macdonald who's pretty good and probably tours Australia in those more intimate smaller venues.

And obviously you should see a band play, I don't know too many Australian ones but Howling Bells, The Jezabels, and The Panics are probably up your ally...all fairly safe Aussie bands that would play in a small-medium sized venue without expensive tickets. The Panics aren't very good but Jezabels/Howling Bells are.
