Pens just grabbing old jalopies.

Jonathan Willis ‏@JonathanWillis
No regular #Sharks defenceman is on the ice for more shots against (rel. to ice-time) at 5v5 than Douglas Murray.

Thomas Drance ‏@ThomasDrance
The Penguins have added a new turnstile at the Consol Energy Center!

Harrison Mooney ‏@HarrisonMooney
Penguins acquiring ALL the slow, over-the-hill grit
So Eaton is out then, or Engelland? They couldn't possibly play Murray in place if Depres.

Good Luck Douglas!
pretty much all the Pens Dmen are mobile sans Murray and Eaton (Engelland isn't lightenined but mobile enough). Very interested to see how the Pens pairings shake out and if Despres keeps his spot in the lineup.

Read on Twitter he'll likely be paired with Niskanen on the 3rd pairing. That's a pretty good bottom pair heading into the play-offs

As it appears now, a small overpayment for a great depth move.

WOW Pittsburgh gets absolutely destroyed in a trade for the second day in a row. Two 2nd rd picks for a #7 d-man that is probably the slowest skater in the league? Good god.

What is your point. They have done nothing yet and the Wings are a bubble team. The pens are trying to win the cup now.

Shero's track record of draft picks in the 2nd round isn't too great, so i don't think i feel too bad about this. i just hope Murray is better than horrific defensively as a Penguin.

lmao, funniest thing is the Pens still have a very good farm system and the Flyers have one of the worst. Actually ranked worst here....

Also, does Shero not know that Murray is swedish? Well he is..

Pittsburgh hasn't had a swede since..uhm... Ulf Samuelsson (correct me if im wrong)? By far the team with least swedes the past two decades

Some pens fans sure are getting defensive about these trades... what is the big deal? If you guys are happy and your trading partners are happy why go out of your way to sound like clear cut winners? the penguins are going to have a much better season than either the sharks or stars. this is getting ridiculous

I responded to a post that said because Pittsburgh made the trade it must be a good trade. Obviously that's a ridiculous statement until we see how Morrow and Murray pan out in Pitts. And we see what becomes of Morrow in Dallas. Obviously every GM in the NHL values second round picks quite highly so it's ridiculous to claim that two secodn roudn picks have little value based on Pitts' past draft record. A high price was paid in both trades. To say, that Pitts didn't give up much sounds like people are just trying to justify the trade.

That article says nothing of that being the condition and now Josh Rimer says different. Is Josh Rimer legit?

That's a very fair question, and one I can't imagine is slipping through Shero's mind. Fleury hasn't looked great these last few years, and especially not in the playoffs.

Would it be be so far fetched if he was to inquire about Luongo? Vancouver would be interested.. Pens have plenty of assets and aren't in the same conference. Question is could the Pens afford the cap hit, and where would Fleury go? Three team trade? Interesting to think about, at least.

What's so difficult to comprehend?

Obviously the sports themselves are completely different in how they are played.

But I made the parallel because the Pens are doing exactly what the Phillies did just a few years ago: overpay for players by the deadline to upgrade their current roster for a playoff run (aka going all in).

Didn't work out for the Phillies, and there's a strong chance it might not work out for the Pens. And if it doesn't it will hamper them in the future.

Doug Wilson says the conditional 2014 2nd becomes a 3rd if the Penguins do not reach the Eastern Conference Final.

That's what the leafs thought before realizing you can't build a team through free agency with a cap. Draft picks are now essential.

i'm not one of them. the Pens definitely lost the Morrow trade at first glance IMO. i think they lost this one too. at this point, anything that can help them win the Cup now is a move worth making.

two 2nds (one is conditional but still), a 5th, and Joe Morrow are way too much for two over-the-hill bottom-line players on paper, but maybe they're the grit the Pens need to win it all this year.
