Detroit was a great team years ago, is pretty good right now, but they're going to need a rebuild soon IMO... especially if Datsyuk decides he's done after next yr.
You're missing another big factor for Schultz signing there. He's from Western Canada. Much like Dekeyser is from Michigan.

I was under the impression that DeKeyser was more of a shutdown defensemen than a two-way one?

If you want to assume that the Western Canada thing was a factor, you can go ahead I guess, but Schultz has never referenced being close to home as a factor in his decision to the best of my knowledge. All the quotes I've seen from him referenced the young talent in EDM and the chance to make a difference right away.

Perhaps Dekeyser is different... who knows? But I wouldn't just assume Detroit is #1 because of where the kid lives. EDM came out of nowhere last year to land Schultz, the same could easily happen again this yr.

I don't know if he ever said it was a factor or not. But people always said Edmonton and Vancouver were thought to the most likely landing places for Schultz because of that.

I know he's from the area but the fact is DET is going to need a rebuild with zets and dats likely past their primes...and that could likely be a very long while of a rebuild. Meanwhile philly has a opportunity to play right now and earn a spot for next year when changes plus no sophomore slumps likely equate to a succeful year or at least playoffs on a young team that really does have a lot of talent and promise.

No. At this point I think the chances of nothing happening are greater than us making moves.

I'm so bored, I thought when "silent" and "moves" was said, I thought it meant someone was letting out some SBDs .

I'm nervous about the lack of info on Grossmann.

The quiet on the front of Dan Dekeyser could be a good sign. Many thought this would be a simple decision for him and he would go to Detroit. The longer it goes the better for any other team to get him.

Maybe Snider and Homer through in a sneaky 2nd pitch for him?

Homer probably called him this morning to say ... "we can now offer you 2nd pairing".

Even if he doesn't sign with us, I hope he just signs somewhere else besides Detroit. They seem extremely confident he will be suiting up for them.

With that being said he probably will sign there.

Sounds like DeKeyser signs with Detroit, essentially making the whole process a waste of everyone's time.

Oh well. That's kind of how this season has been. I was always hopeful, but realistically knew he we was going to Detroit. Whole thing feels pointless, but still, probably a bit of an ego massage for the guy having all of these GM's and owners trying to woo him.

Well, you were right LegionOfDoom91 It's a shame too, we could've offered DeKeyser so much more... first pairing minutes, powerplay time, and when he made a mistake, it's not like anybody would've noticed because that's par for the course w/ this D.

It's a bummer the Flyers lost out on Dekeyser but there are others out there. Not to mention when it comes to undrafted players, a less heralded guy usually turns out better than the hyped guy. Case in point, Matt Read and Cory Conacher vs Stephane Da Costa.

It's not like it was shot in the dark guess though. He pretty much wasted everyone's time by dragging this one out.

Meh, I don't see it as dragging this out. He's a kid deciding where he is going to start his career. I'm sure you making the biggest decision of your life wouldn't just go with one offer and not explore your options (even if you think you are going to take that first offer anyway).

It just makes sense to do. It drives his price up, even if he already knows where he wants to go. He likely has a relatively short amount of time to make money playing hockey, he might as well get the most you can while it's there.
