2013 NHL Expectations/Prediction Thread

Here we go boys!

We are back. I absolutely can not wait for this season to start.

So here we go, last year's expectations thread was interesting to look back on after the fact.

What are your expectations for this year (position in standings/playoffs-noplayoffs)?
And make a prediction on the senators 48 game season

I think ottawa makes it in the bottom half of the conference 4-8 but closer to 7-8.

Record: 25-15-8

SC Champion - Pittsburgh defeats St-Louis in finals

Art Ross - Malkin
Hart - Malkin
Norris - Weber
Calder - Tarasenko
Vezina - Lundqvist

Ottawa will finish somewhere between 7-10.

Ottawa finishes somewhere from 7-10 in East standings.

Karlsson has a 25-30 point season, people complain that it isn't enough.

Alfredsson misses ~10 games due to injury, confirms it's his last season.

Spezza still doesn't lead the league in giveaways.

Silfverberg finishes season with 8-10 goals.

Kyle Turris decides he doesn't like the cold, hard winters of Ottawa, requests a trade.

Mike Zibanejad plays less than 5 NHL games this season.

Someone starts another thread about Nikita Filatov.

Wade Redden does not return to Ottawa.

Is that Mika's Canadian twin brother?

- Alfie plays well... Decides to play another year
- Karlsson wins the Selke

Karlsson wins Art Ross, Harris and Norris trophies. Blues fans on here still hate on him.

EAST:
Boston and Pitt look tough (assuming good health). I think they'll meet in the ECF.

I really like the Rangers team, but I think they will struggle to score enough goals against Pitt & Boston in the playoffs.

NJ looks like they lost too many goals to remain in the playoffs.

Florida had one of those seasons where everything went right and I think they drop out of the playoffs.

I think Patty Weircioch will be a blessing and good enough for us to stick around playoff contention. He'll be thought of as a core member of our defense in the offseason and we'll be excited for next year when Cowen returns. I think we're right around 7-10th in the conference.

I think the Islanders (BOLD prediction) will finally make the playoffs and Tavares will be top 5 in scoring. I also think Carolina and Tampa will push for the playoffs.

Top 5 in scoring:
Malkin
Crosby
Stamkos
Tavares
Segin (he becomes a superstar, Eberle too)

Hart: Crosby
Norris: Weber (it will become a redemption vote for those that are still upset he didn't win it last year).
Vezina: Lundqvist

Stanley Cup: Boston

We will finish 1st in our division and 2nd in the conference (Rangers will be first).

We will loose in the 2nd round against the team rank 6th in the conference.

Why 1st?

We will go from one of the most penalized team to mid pack.
We will have a better start than last year.
The players know MacLean's system already.
Better secondary goaltending

The east playoff teams:

1 - Pittsburgh
2 - Ottawa
3 - Washington
4 - Philadelphia
5 - New York R.
6 - Boston
7 - Tampa Bay
8 - Florida

Ottawa wins the division, and a bunch of players have stand-out years (Spezza, Karlsson, Turris, Anderson/Bishop). Knocked out in the ECF by those pesky Penguins.

I don't think we make the playoffs this year, and I still ain't mad. So much went well last year, didn't really have any serious injuries to key players with the exception of clumsy cooking accidents. We've already lost a top dman to injury. I'm worried if Spez or Karl go down for significant time we could be in trouble.

This is still year 2 of a 3 year rebuild. We were spoiled last year with a surprise playoff berth, but i'm not confident it'll happen again.

You think Florida makes it over Carolina?

This. And finishing as low in the standings this year only, given the half season and insanely deep draft, is the best thing for us. Hope to push deep into the playoffs next season.

Bum can't even lead the league in the only stat that he's good for.

This thread needs more predictions before everyone has a 20/20 hindsight

Early bump, too bad it wasn't very popular when it came out.

Expectations met and even surpassed as far as I'm concerned

The way the team has played has made it very difficult for me to stay mad at the players for causing the lockout (yet again)
