Wings get their top 6 winger for Datsyuk. Rangers get some of the depth they lost in the Nash trade. Filppula and Cleary are FA's but probably won't be needed by Detroit after this season. Who needs to add?
As others have said, that 1st is going nowhere. And of those players, only Filppula would be attractive to the Rangers. They already have seven capable defensemen and do not need Quincey. Needless to say, they have no real reason to be interested in Cleary either.

I'm going to express the same bafflement as others at the idea that Bouwmeester has "world-class shutdown ability."

I'd very pissed if they traded Mrazek. Maybe my favorite prospect. Much, much rather see Nyquist or Jurco traded and I like them both too.

It will be difficult to make a major trade for a top 6 this week?

I saw on NHL.com it was a video of what goes into making a trade in the NHL. They said it is very hard to make a deal. The Phoenix Gm: Don Maloney said '' I don't even trade to western conference teams, we are all competing with each other..." That got me thinking it will very hard for us to make a deal this year.
Reasons: A) Western Conference teams don't what to give us a top 6 player because we in the same fight against them.

B) Eastern Conference teams won't either because of the re-alignment next season we will be in the east.

Are we basically screw because of this?
Thoughts?

Well sucks for people who want Yandel.

To be honest we are not top 6 forward away from contending. I wouldn't trade for one for futures this year anyway.

The Red Wings don't want to give up their first-round pick, and they aren't looking for patch pieces.

"I'm OK where we're at," Holland said. "Especially considering 20% of (the) roster has been out. And I'm not doing any rentals for fifth or sixth defensemen, or fourth-line players. If we can get a real player, a top-six forward or a top-four defenseman, at a price we can live with, who wouldn't do that? But I'm not doing any rentals."

"We're trying to make the playoffs but at the same time rebuild the team," Holland said. "I like our depth up front. We're set in goal. We're younger on defense. We have to be patient."

From Holland's point of view, the best improvement would be getting back some of the guys who are injured: Darren Helm, Kyle Quincey, Mikael Samuelsson, Todd Bertuzzi.

"If we wake up and have Bert, Sammy, Quincey and Helm in a couple of weeks," Holland said, "there's not a move I could make that would be much better than that."

Gustav Nyquist has at least a 10-year career NHL career ahead of him. So does prospect Riley Sheahan. The Wings don't want to relinquish those guys. Valtteri Filppula might appear to be trade bait, but the Wings would rather get him signed to an extension, all the more so to offset the high probability Pavel Datsyuk goes back to Russia when his contract expires at the end of next season.

Holland's message to his players at the start of the season was "get in, and anything can happen." Now that it looks like the Wings will make the playoffs for a 22nd straight season, Holland may well decide to see what this group can make happen.

Doesn't sound like Lashoff is going anywhere.

We are closer to the Ottawa Senators then the Pittsburgh Penguins.

If we can add a real impact, under 30 star type player(top pairing dman or top line winger) then we should, not for this season but for the next 5. Otherwise forget it

No way we get an under-30 elite winger or d-man without paying a price to do so.

Kenny is sending a mixed message...are we rebuilding on the fly, or giving precious ice-time and opportunity to plugs like Sammy, Cleary and Miller instead of young guns like Gus, Tatar and Sheahan?

Whats wrong with paying the price? if the player will be here in a meaningful and impactful way for the next 5 or more seasons then that price is nothing.

the price is never and has never been anywhere close to what HF board posters dream or demand it is or will be.

i know we all want to believe all our prospects are soon-to-be elite stars but the fact is most likely none of them will be

He said he'd pay the price. We can only assume who they few as untouchable prospect wise but I think if a young player that they felt would help them now and in the future they would give up the pieces necessary to do it.

But we're gonna need something to spark the team. Sheahan isn't ready for the NHL, let him finish in the AHL.

I think it's time we as a fan base start to do something. I joked about it earlier but it's time we start a free the kids rally. Whether it's on FB, Twitter, it doesn't matter but we should put pressure on the team, show them that we won't stand for this.

I really don't think Tatar will be with the organization anymore if we make a trade this week, so really a good half of you are then going to be upset about who gets traded for the improvement. If you want JayBo, that means you think he is better than Tatar, 1st and one of our d-man, and this just in he isn't even close to that good, especially with his brutal contract for next year. Which will also pretty much assure us of no Filppula.

if jaybo isnt worth 6.7 million a season, then only a clown GM would feel Filppula was worth 5 million a season

Well, on the flip side. 6.7 million doesn't seem bad to some people on here considering how desperate we are for a top 4 defensemen. In 2 years if datsyuk leaves we may be just as desperate for forwards then, as we are for defensemen now. People will probably trying to lobby for overpaid forwards at the trade deadline just like we are now for Bouwmeester

jaybo would walk in and easily be our top overall dman

if in 2 years we replace datsyuk with some forward who easily walks in and becomes our top overall forward then I could care less how overpaid he is as he would still be our top guy
