Amazing since he really didn't want to go there in the first place.

Good for the Islanders.

Bad for Striet.

Rumor has it that he Bruins, Maple Leafs, Kings and Blues have inquired.

Wang+ Snow get a lot of deserved flak from fans, but I've read comments from Moulson, Tavares, KO and now Vis, indicating those players think well of them.

In one of Vis first interviews after joining the team, he gave Wang props for being so supportive during his son's illness.

Isles are still trying to get Streit to sign an extension. Isles were sitting $16m under the cap floor before Vis new deal. Now with Streit , Nabby and Hamonic their most important players to be signed, they are $11m+ below the floor.

I think they can still get Streit signed.

interesting now that a couple players have resisted coming to the isles to the bitter end, and then found they really enjoyed it and re-signed. Good sign for isles fans!!!

as others have mentioned, I think this is some of the best news for the Isles in a long time. It proves that even the guys who refused to join were impressed with the organization and the team were eventually willing to sign extensions. Hopefully their new arena provides the cash infusion needed for them to spend to the cap and get some quality free agents

Great signing for the isles. A fair price and term.
Sorta kinda. If the KHL hadn't forced Lubo's hand, this never would have happened. Still, there wouldn't have been so much animus if there had been better communication. Lubo talked to the Slovakian press and things were slanted (with Lubo's consent or not, I couldn't say) in Slovan's/KHL's direction. Nobody talked much to the North American media, and the Islanders have very little media to speak of, anyway.

None of that matters, anymore. As they say, all that's well ends well. He's a good player, and a fair bit better than Mark Streit.

Not really. The move to Brooklyn is big news. This was just more of the same. Guerin loves LI, Weight loves LI, Streit loves LI, Nabokov (at least) likes LI, Visnovsky (at least) likes LI.

The core and prospects for NYI look strong, but we still have yet to sign a strong free-agent near the top of his game. We'll need to to become really competitive. The only player close to fitting that description was Mark Streit - who was seen as a mere specialist back when he was signed.

I'll be happy when we sign a player better than PM Bouchard. I'm not saying that we will sign PM Bouchard. Just that a guy like PM Bouchard - someone looking to reclaim past glory - is likely the highest-profile signing we'll make.

Cheers,

Dan-o

It is nice to get some positive news for once and the vindication is a bonus. Hopefully you're right and the new arena changes the ball game and the Isles can finally operate like a normal NHL franchise. I don't think they'll ever be a cap team though, probably middle of the pack.

The big question is whether Isles fans will have to wait until the team actually moves to Brooklyn for the team to actually start spending some money. We'll just have to see.
