You might be able to help me here. I am compiling a list of ppg players currently being shopped by their team for picks.
Couple criteria:
1: team in playoff hunt
2: preferably ppg players on the right side of 30.

Anyone?

This post makes no sense.

1.) You begin by declaring that Phil Kessel is a one dimensional player, going as far as to say this is obvious

2.) You then go on to state three dimensions that Phil Kessel possesses

Bozak has been a common denominator throughout, as he has centered Kessel for most of his time here. What has changed is the coach and the system, which is the greater factor effecting Kessel. IMO

If the argument remains Kessel needs better players to be better, than its also logical to suggest that better use of cap space and money would be on acquiring and spending them on those better players to benefit the team more, as simply paying Kessel more money isn't going to change anything. Good players demanding top dollars make player(s) around them better by their presence, not the other way around.

Thus the belief by some that trading Kessel for those player(s) addresses a means to better the team by using him as the asset to acquire them, should be an option worthy of consideration.
PPG, got it? A way to ignore his point total to make a bias opinion.

Cap hit is a major consideration and I want to have room to sign and keep our core players as well as have some money to go after some top talent if available.

Currrently we have almost 19 million in cap hit for 4 players in the 2014-2015 season.

We need to sign
Kessel
Dion
Kadri
Franson
Gunnar
Bozak
Mac
McClement
Gardiner
Reimer
Some of these may be gone but we need similar replacements. Put your contract values next to this individuals and that still only brings us to 14 players and you will see that the cap can quickly become an issue.

Everyone who states that Grabo needs to go is correct....takes up to much cap space for what he brings to the table....

I want the Leafs to be a good team for more that a couple of years, so these up coming contract cap hits are vital to the ability of the team to be able to keep key players while still having space to sign needed pieces.

Can somebody link this guy to Joffrey Lupul's and James van Riemsdyk's career point totals?

One dimensional as in his offence is the only thing he's really going to offer a hockey team... But he offers much more then just being able to score goals, like many suggest... He's not just a shooter.

good to see him produce when it counts, playoffs will be huge for him

as for your list, Semin, Gaborik, Kovalchuk, Heatley, are all point per game players that were moved or let go

Wrong.

Kessel will be 27 when his new 8 year contract starts.

Kessel must have been reading this thread. LOL

Yesterday, was an example of a player worthy of the $$, as he had an outstanding game..

He has to do that more consistently however, and hopefully he does it in this year's playoffs, when it really matters most.

Gaborik, Kovalchuk, and Heatley (ATL and OTT) each chose to move on from their teams... they weren't let go.

Exactly. Gaborik left for more money.

He thought he could get a 100M deal, Minnesota offered him a 79M long term deal...and then when he went UFA, nobody wanted to give him that kind of money so he settled for 37.5M over 5 years.

I didnt realize the worth and value of a player is based upon one game? Thankfully it isnt. If you look at his body of work, where he ended up in the league scoring wise last year, where he is at this year, and improved his overall game, the proof is there. His limited time in the playoffs, he did very well.

Interesting how many times people say this and assume it to be true. Since Crosby and Malkin have been in the NHL (arguably the two best centres), only 10 Penguins have managed to hit 50 points and in most cases, they had higher point totals elsewhere. First number is their Pens high. In brackets are their career highs elsewhere.

Leclair 51 (97)
Recchi 68 (123)
Hossa 66 (100)
Sykora 63 (81)
Malone 51
Kunitz 61 (60)
Ponikarovsky 50 (61)
Neal 81 (55)
Dupuis 59 (48)
Staal 50

Kessel is officially a PPG player for the first time this season.

Here's a list of players who have posted a PPG in each of the last two seasons, while also playing more than 50% of the games:

Evgeni Malkin
Steven Stamkos
Niklas Backstrom
Phil Kessel

Really study this list, nice and long.

The thought of paying Kessel anything over 6m is chilling. I'd be alright with 6m, and might be able to stomach 6.25m - maybe. But if the price is 6.5m or more... trade his ass. Just because you have cap space, doesn't mean you fill it with bad contracts - especially for a team that can afford to spend to the cap (vs say Columbus/Phoenix/Florida who will never be cap teams).
