Trade Deadline Shopping Lists: Eastern Conference

http://lastwordonsports.com/trade-deadline-shopping-lists-eastern-conference/

Quote:
Today’s piece is about teams who have a solid grasp on a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. This is not to say that their can’t be an 18 wheeler going off the cliff in the last month of the season. However, these teams should be looking at themselves as playoff bound at the deadline, and looking to load up for their run at the cup.
We’ve already seen our first deals of the season with the Pittsburgh Penguins going hog wild and adding Brenden Morrow from the Dallas Stars, Douglas Murray from San Jose, and this early morning blockbuster with Jarome Iginla from Calgary...So, who else is buying?

Leafs, likely. Nothing big but probably a top 4 defenceman. (Morris, Bouwmeester)

A guy like Torres and a d-man like Regehr would be just what the doctor orders for the Habs.

Glad to hear the Devils are not a serious contender and thus do not have to worry about replacing Kovy or finding second line scoring.

Whew! That's a load off my mind. Time to tank

How is Bouwmeester nothing big? Seems like a pretty big acquisition to me.

A prust type winger(Does that even exist outside of himself?)
A Erskine type D

I've looked into Glencross, Brouwer, Clowe and McLoed for the forwards.
Erskine and Engelland come to mind.

What is sure is that we don't want to screw the future. So a rental is out of the way.

Regarding the Leafs: Liles also has playoff experience, so it's not just Phaneuf and Franson.

Montreal needs :

-A top4 Dman, a puck moving or a size/grit
-A bottom 6 with size and scoring abilities (crash the net type) to play with Galchenyuk and Eller.
-A bottom 6 with size/grit and pk skills.

A right handed Top 4 defenseman would be key on the Leafs' shopping list. Experience would help. Preferably defensively oriented.

A veteran backup goalie might also be of interest. They could still use a #1C if one became available but I doubt they will go that hard at the deadline.

I'd go after Giordano and Khabibulin if I were Nonis. Gio especially, he'd be a great fit here.
