Nice to see former Sound Tiger Steve Olesky will be on the bottom pairing for the Caps. That guy was a Brent Thompson ECHL dumpster dive special. I was hoping BPort would have brought him back but with the over overload of defensemen via waiver wire, he is not missed what so ever. Congrats to him for getting a nice paycheck this year.

I feel like we always play good games against the Caps. I think it will be a fun one if anything.

Lose to Washington and the season is over. It doesn't get any simpler than that. Win or sell.

OV is hot right now but this is a game we can compete in.
Now is the time for JT to step up his game on both sides of the puck.
Nabby has to be solid.

Win or go home.

Holtby's been a major reason for that, as he has been spectacular. The bad news is he'll likely be in net with yesterday off and no games until Saturday. The good news is that it will be his 4th game in 6 days, which with any luck will have him off his game a little.

But the key will still be to shut down that top line.

Ovechkin 3 + other Caps 2
Islanders PP 2

final 5-2

put a fork in it, we are done. 5 on 5 we are the worst team in the league, you can't fix that overnight with the same 4 lines and no ambition to change.

Statistically the Isles are 4th worst in the league.

Make or Break Road Trip against very good teams. MUST win tonight OR its lights out. We got a repreive with the teams above us falling off a bit. I will be in the Pepco Suite for this one... We usually lose these in a heartbreaking fashion. Hope I am wrong...

Breaking out my First "Lets Go Islanders" chant on this forum. I am very hard on the Isles because of the bleep I've seen for twenty plus years. I can't put my rose colored glasses on...

They looked average after a hot first period against the Rangers Sunday. We just can't get beat early.

Hopefully the Caps are tired and overlook us. They just seem to be peaking at the right time.

The Caps are a big physical team. I would love to see Joensuu get a crack at it. See if he toughened up in Sweden or is still a big softy.

But I'm sure Caps will say we got 3 goals last game so he likes the way we're playing blah blah blah

Tavares needs to play better. Period.

The lines and personnel won't change nor make much of a difference anyway. This team relies on Tavares, Nabokov more than anyone.

Caps playing really well of late, Ovechkin still doesn't like the the Ovy of old, but he's scoring again, and he always seems to play well against the Islanders.

Is it possible JT is hurt? He seems slower than he was at the beginning of the season.

Same lineup as Sunday. Because scoring 1 goal against the worst team in the league (with the goalie in) is acceptable.

Because of the lockout, it's been a weird season. He played over in Switzerland and was playing wing on the big ice surface. Has to rush back to the NHL. Playing center again and having to absolutely carry his line for anything to happen. In the early part of the season, he was the 2nd leading TOI forward in the league in a condensed schedule. He's got to be a little tired.

He strikes me as a creature of habit and the lockout has thrown him off a bit. He does need to play better, but he's earned enough points with me to give him a little bit of a pass on not being as consistently dominant as he was last season.

Well we didn't score like any of us would like but we got a ton of chances. Moulson especially frustrated me with some of the opportunities he didn't finish. Neilsen had a golden opportunity. Tavares somehow didn't score on a wrap around. They didn't play poorly but they finished poorly.

with no offence, I thought that I will bet against nyi but from your reaction I see it is not that clear who will win today.

Definitely agree that Tavares, although playing fine overall, needs to a bit better than he has been lately. The JT of last season looked much more dominant, but that's not to say that JT has been bad this season. IMO losing PAP hurt JT a bit, because PAP was a solid puck carrier and also did more dirty work than either of Moulson or Boyes. The Moulson and Boyes combo is way too soft to be playing with JT, one of them needs to go (should be Boyes) and replaced with a more gritty winger (why not try Martin there?).

I didn't check stats or dates, but from memory it really seems like their better play coincides with the return of Backstrom. He is far more important to that team than OV is, and has been for a few seasons.
