I don't think chemistry will get screwed up too much. They are basically a one line team with Malkin out and they are still winning

Personally, this is what I'm hoping for.

A guy under the radar who has the ability, but is not showing it at the moment. He cap hit is managable and he could be a long-term solution. With his current situation, Buffalo can't ask for a hell of a lot to move him either.

Pens aren't getting Stafford. They can't afford his future salary. Pens are looking for rentals or inexpensive players. They have a ton of money to blow this year but then have to extend Malkin and Letang in the offseason and will be tight against the Cap. That's why Shero is making all these moves

Filppula+2nd for Bortuzzo? All dependent on whether we land Dekeyser or not as we'd have a Pens style logjam on the backend in the coming years(Dekeyser, Sproul, Ouellet, Backman, Marchenko).

Oh, o'k, thanks for clarifying . . .

True about Letang and Malkin, but the Pens are about at the expected 2014 cap, and have ~$14M coming off the roster in the offseason. Letang is certainly going to get a raise, but how much more than $8.7M is Malkin going to get? Enough that they can't afford a $4M top six winger?

I think you have that the wrong way round, Filppula for Bortuzzo + 2nd.

Not sure Shero wants that 4 million cap hit going forward 2 more years with both Geno and Letang needing to be extended

That's the only problem I see with acquiring Stafford too. Well that and Shero seems to be extremely high on Maatta. He actually preferred him to Joe Morrow according to reports.

Bingo.

I'm amazed that Leaf fans are offering up players in this thread. If anything, they will look to add minor depth - not give up some.

Although the same could be said for Wings fans offering Filpulla at this point...is he for sure not going to sign?

Does Pitt want Havlat? We just played nice with the Murray trade. DW likes to trade with certain teams over and over (see Carolina an Minny).

Any interest from Pens fans in Hecht for a depth/bottom 6 rental? He's stayed healthy so far this year and still has pretty good chops defensively, though his offensive game is all but non-existent. Also has the versatility to play C or LW.

I doubt it. Shero never expressed interest in Havlat any of the times he was available back when he was actually good.

Dealing Kuli doesn't make us "sellers". We have an abundance of wingers which makes Kuli/Mac available.

Meh, guess it depends on the price. Are you willing to take Tanner Glass of our hands?

Marcel Goc makes a lot of sense for the Pens.

Maybe if he was an expiring contract.

I actually think the Leafs are going to go both ways. On the one hand, if there's an addition that makes sense (and, in a seller's market, there likely won't be), then Nonis will do it. Conversely, he may move an expendable asset or two if he gets the value of return, for example, that Pittsburgh gave for Morrow or Murray this year or Nashville gave for Gaustad last year.

THAT is my point. You're in the hunt (IMO, I think this is the year the Leafs make it). Guys like Kuli and Mac help, but they're NOT going to be the reason you do OR do NOT get in. Nonis won't give them away. You're not dealing Kuli or Mac for a 2nd. BUT, if, for example, Ray Shero or another GM came around offering a Joe Morrow or a 1st (in this deep draft) caliber return (i.e., what B. Morrow and Gaustad netted the last two years), then IMO Nonis will be all ears. He wants to make the playoffs. He also wants to set the Leafs up for the next 3-5 years and, IMO, won't jeopardize or short change that longer goal to keep Kuli or Mac if the offer is right (what some may call an overpayment).
