Leggio discussion

I don't post here often, but I lurk all the times, so forgive me if this should go somewhere else.

What does everyone think of Leggio? After another shutout last night, his numbers this year are incredible. He is single handedly carrying that team to the playoffs. Do you seem him ever being called up if the Sabres drop off and this team goes into "sell" mode. What about next year? What do you think his future is with this team?

I'd say Leggio's future is solid in Rochester or in the AHL.

I hope he gets the call and I hope they give him a legitimate chance because he's earned it. Sometimes a goalie takes the long road. Just look at Tim Thomas, or Roloson. I also have a bias because I grew up playing with him and it would be awesome to see an old teammate on the Sabres.

Why can't he play in the NHL in your opinion? He has something like a .94 save % in recent months. That's ridiculous for any league.

I'd at least give him a chance in the NHL. Could be a solid back up if the lustre doesn't lose its shine when not playing.

Unless Buffalo rips off 5 Ws in a row, I don't see any reason why he wouldn't get some NHL games in by the end of this season.

It's not like we're talking about a recent draft pick or someone still developing. He'll be 29 in a couple months. I doubt the Sabres are going to be working on any plans to include a 29 year old goaltender who's never scratched the NHL and only has moderate success at the AHL level. He's a nice emergency call up in case Miller gets injured or traded and they need someone quick, but I doubt they look at him for anything other than that.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing him get a shot. Could be a late bloomer, or he could just be a good AHL goalie. Our year isn't going to be made worse or our playoff chances jeopardized by giving him a couple games to see what he can do. If Miller gets traded, I can't see why they wouldn't give him a look.

And if he turns out to be, great. I'm not holding my breath for it, nor would I have any plans based on it happening.

I really like Leggio. He's got the team on his back and he's responding. I bet he'd be a serviceable NHL backup now...

He's played better than Enroth did in the AHL.

Mild curiosity... Those who don't think he'd pan out... Have you seen him play?

Probably because you didn't realize he played in Europe?

Yes, season ticket holder and I've watched almost every road game.

Been thinking a lot about him lately. I'm ready to give him a taste. At this point, what's there to lose?

He is also an unrestricted free agent after this year. Might be good to see him play a few times in order to sort out contractual direction after the year ends.

I don't think he's an NHL option myself. Yes, people can throw out Tim Thomas, but that's very rare. He's your typical AHL veteran goalie. He's the Amerks MVP by a wide margin. I'm concerned they'll let him go this year, which would be a mistake.

Leggio deserves a shot IF the Sabres are blowing it up and rebuilding with Miller getting traded before the deadline.

Enroth and Leggio both have 147 career AHL games played. And their stats are pretty close.

Enroth - 74-58-9 2.64 GAA 0.915 Save%
Leggio - 84-58-3 2.67 GAA 0.917 Save%

Unless the Sabres are getting a young NHL goalie back at the deadline (like J Bernier), then I think calling up Leggio and going 1/1A with Enroth and Leggio the rest of the way is the way to go.

Drew MacIntyre probably has much better AHL numbers than both of them, but he's not really an NHL goalie.

Leggio beat out MacIntrye for the starting job last year
