Khabibulin to Toronto?

Pure speculation but on HC right now Kyper and the boys are talking about the idea of Khabibulin heading to Toronto as insurance heading into the playoffs. Talked about how although Reimer and Scrivens have done all they could up to this point, having a healthy Khabibulin could help them get past the first round and maybe second if everything goes right.

What do you guys think? With Kipper staying in Calgary should the Leafs go after Khabibulin and if so what would the price be?

I don't really see why they need an insurance policy. This team isn't going to win the Cup this year. We may as well try and give Reimer/Scrivens some experience, instead of robbing them of a chance to get that kind of vital experience while simultaneously pissing a draft pick down the toilet on a rental that won't actually win us anything of importance.

Woah, I thought he retired or went to jail or something. When was the last time he started?

A number of Oiler fans are adamant about trying to deal Khabibulin but I would be very surprised if the oilers do so for what they can get back. They are not really in the market for draft picks, they want players that can help. Also after Dubnyk they have nothing at all.

Add to that, that he just stole a win last night for them and I just don't see it happening at all. I'm going to go as far as to say the Oilers are going to try and resign him next year. (A lot of other oiler fans would disagree.)

Bulin wall for a 5th. I don't think Edmonton fans are going be happy with his return if he is ever dealt.

The hope has always been a 2nd.

Totally contingent on his save % and groin. It's always about the groin.

Getting another start in which he holds down the fort and doesn't come off the ice half way through a period, gliding on only 1 skate should get 'er done.

Not sure that a 2nd is his "worth", but value is all relative: if there's a team needing goaltending at the deadline, then there's a team willing to (over?) pay the going rate.

Now... if we could combine him with Whitney, then we're REALLY talking.

So Lungo to TML didn't pan out.
Kipper to TML didn't pan out.
After Khabi to TML doesn't pan out, do they go after Backstrom or Giguere?

CLEAN THE NW DIVISION OF IT'S GOALIES!

He would be a solid pickup for TO to provide a short term veteran presence. I doubt that he gets moved though. What is his contract status?

Seems like there should be some sort of deal there. Edmonton should trade him if there is a team interested. Toronto should be interested as he still is very serviceable (remember his start to last season), and would only put up better numbers with a better defense in front of him.

I think Oiler fans will be happy with whatever return we get.

pretty much this--we have accepted that he is done in Edmonton. We have goalies in the system who need to get some NHL time and Habby is gone after this year--so we would be getting something for nothing

as long as we do not get stupid in our demands

Edmonton's defence has been fine and has allowed fewer goals than Toronto. Defence has not been their problem. Scoring has.

if we cant get a goalie who is a legitimate upgrade over reimer then i would rather just play reimer in the playoffs and see what he can do.

I'm not sure the Leafs would go that high. I could be wrong though. I was thinking more of a 6th or a 7th.
