Slightly off topic:

Can conditional picks change years?

i.e.

Derek Roy
for
C Brandon Pirri
Cond 2nd 2014. If Chicago wins the 2013 Stanley Cup or Roy re-signs before the draft -> 1st 2013. If Roy re-signs with Chicago after the draft -> 1st 2014?

He's closer to being ready than a very low first and even a better guarantee than the low first + Schroeder.
I would much rather have Pirri than Schroeder. I've always felt like he was one of those "name" guys who just wasn't going to make it. Not interested in that Vancouver offer much at all.

why should Roy end up with a higher return?

Pirri + 2nd 2014 is what I would offer, take it or leave it type of deal
The only reason Morrow would get a better return than Roy is if GM's really put a ton of stock into veteran reputations and care little about on ice production. Derek Roy is a better hockey player and will contribute more directly to a postseason than this version of Brenden Morrow. Of that I am 100% certain.

And I agree, Pirri is far better than Schroeder. I personally don't really love the Schroeder+1st deal. Just using that as an example of what many are saying Roy is worth.

So...

To Chicago -

Derek Roy

To Dallas -

Brandon Pirri
Conditional 2013 1st-round pick

Deal? Hahaha
Chicago could resign him if he wants to be reasonable. 4.5M over 3-4 years, Chicago could do that.

As for the deal, yes, I'd be comfortable doing that. If Chicago doesn't win the Cup and Roy signs, it's a first. If they win the Cup and he doesn't resign, it's a first. If neither happen, it's a 2nd. Sounds good.

I'm bumping this back up.

Roy + 2013 4th for McNeill

Is McNeill untouchable for the Hawks, or does the pick need to change?

I doubt he's untouchable. The Hawks would probably be more likely to deal him (for the right return) than Danault or Teravainen.

And what is that right return? (Around Derek Roy)

Dallas is thin at right handed players, and a right handed Center would be fantastic.

Ok. So if a deal centered around McNeill and Derek Roy were to happen, what would the extra players/picks have to be?

I doubt that the Stars would add to Roy to get McNeill and I think Bowman would gladly accept a swap

I don't how to figure this one out.

GM Joe likes big centers .... so you'd think McNeil.

GM Joe also HATES giving up on the season, that means you need an NHL ready replacement .... so you'd think Pirri.

McNeil also is pretty similar to Dallas prospect Radek Faksa in terms of questionable Top 6 upside, but he's also a right shot center which is something Dallas needs.

Chicago makes too much sense, I just don't know which way GM Joe would lean.

One thing I wish GM joe would consider is this:

Wouldn't it be easier to keep Roy than to try and find a Roy replacement? We don't have ANY bad contracts that are buyout worthy. What if we just pay Roy his money, and if he's not worth it, we use our buy out.

Roy knows that he and Ribeiro(if he doesnt re-sign in Washington) are really the only two top 6 centers available in the free agent market. he may not re-sign here before seeing what is out there in free agency, knowing there might be a team willing to give him even more than he's asking for.

Pirri and McNeill? That's both of Chicagos future at C... tough price to pay for a Rental. 1 of them + a 3rd 2014 sounds good to me with the condition that if the Hawks resign Roy or win the Cup with him this year, the 3rd becomes a 1st 2014

Sorry ... definitely was asking for both. I was trying to decide which one GM Joe would prefer. Neither one works for exactly what we know about GM Joe so I don't know if his love of size will win (McNeill) or his hate for selling and giving up on the season (Pirri).

My gut is he prefers McNeill because Dallas also has a WHL obsession. If his WHL scouts like McNeill, there's no doubt that's who he'd want. Dallas' Dub scouts have been some great work for Dallas lately.

The only report to ever say $$$ amounts was the initial report from Bob McKenzie. Dallas wasn't even offering his current salary of $5.5 million per that report. If that's the case, this is Dallas not willing to pay market value. If that was incorrect though, and they are offering over $5 million, then yeah he's holding out to see how big the money will get in the summer. I don't have a problem with that, but I'm glad it sounds like they're moving him rather than losing him for nothing.
