It would be just as idiotic to ignore progression and focus entirely on the past, like Whitney. I'm sure that line of thinking is similar to the one Milbury used when he was trading away Luongo and Olli Jokinen, or when he traded Bertuzzi and McCabe for Trevor Linden.

If true Whitney will probably be the 7th or 8th D-man for the playoffs. I wouldn't want to pay very much for him though.

This would be exactly why we shouldn't trade him.

He is not worth nearly as much to everyone else as he is to the oilers. He is finally turning into what we were hoping he could become, a big body who drives the net and does exactly what you ask of him every shift.

We need more players like mps, not less of them.

Hemsky is not soft, just very injury prone, and not very physical, but he's not afraid to go to the net

Not sure why people are laughing at the thought of Whitney joining the Bruins. He'd be a rental .

He may have lost a lot of his mobility but he's still very good on the powerplay. No offense to Schultz but he's the Oilers best Dman on the PP. They are much more successful with the man advantage with Whitney in the line up.

Get Whitney on the Bruins 3rd pairing while being a PP specialist, they're an even better team.

Please let it be Hemsky or Jones instead of MPS, I think if MPS is in the deal Khokalchev has to come back the other way (which would explain why he's scratched today).

Ryan Whitney is Tom Poti 2.0 i feel bad for Boston fans if the Bruins trade for him.. Murray would have been a better option...

Can't see the B's dealing Lucic (and not for that package). He's what 29 other teams in the league want.

But how much is he worth for the oilers exactly? I mean, he's first of all a offensive player but he's fast so it makes him semi versatile. Boston can need some upgrades in the bottom 6 and if they get a guy with potential that is great.

As of now MPS is a better NHLer than Whitney. With his play for the last month or so he's shown already a pretty good top 9 player so it's not all potential.
If we combine potential with actual play this season MPS value is a hell of a lot higher than Whitney imho.

I think it would be stupid for the Oilers to move MPS when he's finally pulling his **** together. Unless Boston is offering something real juicy. But I have a bad feeling that if we trade him now we'll be looking back in a few years saying what the hell was Tambo thinking.

Paajarvi for Koko would be an absolute embarassment from the Oilers' brass. They're already weak on the left side AND small at forward already. So moving Paajarvi, a 6'2 LW who has taken strides this season would be senseless.

How about Svedberg? I know he isn't proven, but he might be able to be a good goalie.
And what if the Yeti is thrown in? I would cry for a week then, but, well...

Exciting to be a B's fan IMO. Lots of trade talk around the team today.

He isn't just an offensive player anymore, he's become a very versatile two way forward, who is one of our more reliable players in the D zone, and you know exactly what to expect from him every shift, if he's on d he'll make the smart play to get it up, or take it himself and drive it to the net. He's also winning a ton of board battles and battles in front of the net which he used to back away from.

He's an absolutely ideal third liner, who i can easily see being a second liner in the near future.

Oh, thx. I haven't seen his play after he moved to NA.

it's reasonable to assume that there will be a lull in updates, confirmed ones at least, until the teams are done playing tonight, no?

Whitney + MPS + Conditional 2013 1st (2014 if Oil don't make the show this year) For Lucic
Don't think the Bruins would give up Lucic for that package, regardless of if value is close or not. They're a much better team with him, and they want to win a cup again this season.

I also would hate to see Lucic in the new Pacific Division next season.
