Trades happen during games.

Just ask Mike Cammalleri.

WE ARE NOT GETTING LUCIC

Not unless it is RNH Hall Eberle Yak... even then tough sell I am 200% sure...

I could see Bartkowski not being part of the rumored Iggy deal... could come here instead... fits Tambo's MO of getting younger player at same position

Bartkowski + 2nd for Whitney... doubt highly it is Khoklachev... that kid is too good

How is Whitney, the guy that is injury prone and has been a healthy scratch this season, at 4 million as a rental, worth Bartkowski + 2nd?
Brb, trading Ballard for a first.

UFA Rental vs absurd contract.

Did you see the return Douglas Murray got?

Whitney's not great, but he's not a bad defenseman at all and the going rate for these rentals this season according to the market so far is high. It's not out of the question to think an average prospect and a second-round pick is the return it'd take for the guy when Douglas Murray just returned a second and a conditional second and he should be of lesser value than Whitney is.

Man, Whitney is really ragged on. Some deservedly so but some unwarranted.

Here's an interesting theory from Richard Cloutier (Hockeybuzz EDM blogger):

It sounds like the Calgary Flames have a deal in place to move Jarome Iginla to Boston. It is believed the Bruins will give up a 1st round pick and two prospects in the deal.

Hold your breath folks...there is an Oilers angle to this.

The Oilers will be dealing defenseman Ryan Whitney, Magnus Paajarvi, and a third asset (Anton Lander perhaps) to the Boston Bruins for Milan Lucic. Then Paajarvi will be shifted to the Flames as part of the Iginla deal.
I'd laugh my ass off if it happened.

Because, at points, he's shown he can still move the puck and play the PP like the guy that scored 27p in 35g two seasons ago.

Not to mention, if you pair him with someone other than Corey Potter, he might be a little more comfortable taking chances to create offense.

Playing on a good team helps.

The difference is, Douglas Murray fits his role better than Whitney does. Murray hits hard and plays a simple, solid game and that's what most GMs want for depth defencemen.
Whitney is slow, not great defensively, but puts up points. He's like a slightly better version of Cam Barker being paid over 4 times as much.

I like how you mentioned that when trying to prove his value, right after I said he was injury prone.

Believe what you want Chuck Nucks, if that is your real name. You have a couple valid points but that most of them are moot considering UFA rentals are gold this year, especially to a team with a horrid PP going into the playoffs.

Doesn't matter. This is HF, where if you've ever missed a game, you're injury prone and worthless

The only reason why its being discussed is to make Feaster sweat. And if Feaster gets as amped up over rumours as HF members it worked

... and where a rumor about trading for Ryan Whitney can "evolve" to Lucic going back

Or when you miss 78 games in 2 back-to-back seasons...

You mean when he missed the beginning of the season with the same injury?

I'm not going to deny the fact that his ankle's ****ed for life. But it obviously hasn't stopped him from scoring points, which is why he could potentially return a decent prospect and pick from whoever acquires him.

But we'll see, I suppose.

And? There's lots of people that have had a season ending injury keep them out for the start of the following season. It hasn't hurt any of their value.

Twice in a row?
I just don't know how you can say he isn't injury prone and that it doesn't affect his value.
