Though of course they did have to have that stipulation for the CGY-STL trade:
Quote:
(In the event St. Louis does not qualify for the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Flames will receive St. Louis’ fourth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and the first-round pick will be deferred to the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.)

Worst case scenario for us is Regehr has a Willie Mitchell-like revitalization with LA. I'm guessing with Willie still out (last I heard), that's the role they brought Regehr in for.

The Bouwmeester deal is just hilarious. Sure this is a strong draft and all, but you'd think with St. Louis' surplus of solid prospects that Calgary could squeeze out a Rattie type player for a legitimate top pairing defenseman. The Blues just added Leopold too. Wouldn't wanna play them in the first round.

Difference was, Willie was still a valuable member of the team before his concussion. Regehr has been running on gas fumes since his last season on the Flames.

Meh, J-Bo still has a big cap hit going into next season so I think Feaster got fair value for him. I'm not sure how he will fare in St. Louis either since he plays soft as hell, it will be interesting to see whether if Hitchcock will make J-Bo a better player or if he will buckle under pressure.

Really thought Feaster would've done better for Iginla + Bouwmeester.

not sure what is going on with feaster, you have aging 6th d-men like murray and regher getting good value and then you get nothing but a bottom 1st round pick for bouwmeester, a d-man that could still anchor the flames blueline and wouldn't mind playing for a 30th place team

it's fine to tank but you also need to fill out a roster, they'll need to sign ufa's to overpayment contracts to replace bouwmeester and iginla, and to only receive 2 late firsts for both of those players would make me pretty angry as a flames fan

Good lord, someone send Feaster an offer for Giordano. He's in full "no price too low" mode now.

Iginla + Bouwmeester = 1st round pick, 1 pick that might be a 1st this year if not it's a 4th this year and a 1st in 2014, and four no-name prospects even the fans of their former teams have to look up on hockeydb.

Calgary really needs a GM who doesn't suck at his job hardcore. Sure, it's entertaining as a Canucks fan, but it's gotten a lot more sand than funny lately. Feaster sucks at life.

*edit* just remembered, Buffalo got Regehr for a 2nd rounder and got 2 2nd rounders back for him.

^ The worst part is that he's making other contenders stronger for not nearly the prices they should be.

So does that mean that JBo's ironman streak is now over?

Both Calgary and St Louis are playing tonight and he's obviously not in the lineup.

So is Henrik the new NHL ironman leader?

To be fair, it is a seller's market, with so many teams still "in".
Nevertheless, clearly Darcy Regier is a better GM than the one in Calgary...
Whose name shall not be mentioned.

feaster made the trade call with the league after the st louis game started but before the calgary game so the ironman streak could continue

The Pens yes, but St Loo had to sell their farm team to us to afford JBo's contract.

Watch the Blues miss the playoffs for the next 5 years now.

Honestly I'm not sure the Bouwmeester that played in Calgary makes a team that much better. Certainly not when he may very well cost the Blues a good player next season do to cap issues. As Peca has said. He is soft and easy to play against.

I do find it funny that Flames fans have always maintained they would never tank on purpose yet here they are OBVIOUSLY tanking on purpose to secure one of the top picks. Certainly this year and if not next. They are not receiving any assets back that are going to make any sort of impact contribution any time soon. Nope, they are simply tanking from here on out.

Will JBo be the only player in the history of the league to have never made the playoffs even once in his career?

Why not just hold on to Bouwmeester if you don't get a compelling offer? He's signed for another year still. It doesn't show well on Feaster to be sure.

All this does is make STL that much stronger.

He didn't do well but I don't think he is quite as bad as people think.

a. Iginla forced the Pengs trade onto Calgary, Boston was better but Iginla made them take the crap Pengs return

b. Jbo is $6.7m. He's still $6.7m next year. That is $6.7m the Blues have to deal with, that is $6.7m the blues don't have to spend on UFAs/trades. Ask yourself what other deadline buyers need JBO and have $6.7m free next year under a $64m cap?

Only way JBO gets a great return is if Flames ownership eat part of his salary. They probably didn't want to.

Maybe...
Maybe not.

JBo was supposed to make the Flames stronger...
Yet the Flames never made it back to the playoffs in his tenure.
He may be the anti-good luck charm.

Except he already said he'd refuse to report if traded. Although in a way, it's perhaps better for the Flames in the long run if there's still one player left on their roster that Feaster doesn't dump for a draft pick and a few nothing "prospects".

And yeah, he did have his hands tied to some degree with Iginla's NTC and JBo's ridiculous contract, but still. Seller's market? Nobody told Calgary.

Answer to 'b' is DET.

Bouwmeester is very underrated. He regularly posts a >1.0 Corsi Rel QoC. Touch competition and does pretty well. Despite being "soft".

Bouwmeester-Pietrangelo is a great top pairing to have. STL will be factor for a long time if they can retain such a combo.
