Easy to do when Gillis fubars this asset into a negative. Unless there's a deadline deal made (and a buyers market for $$ goalies) then Luo becomes a buyout option... Terrible job of bluffing so far. And with our offence falling deeper and deeper behind everyone but Calgary in our division (I'll take the youthful potential of the Avs over the next four years to our middling and aging puck handlers) it'll take the ghost of Sawckuk to get us past a first or at best second round exit...

What tantalum said makes it seem like they're going to be in a bit of a squeeze next year. If their young guns get the raises it'll still cost them their other depth players. But they could probably keep their RFA's that way.
They have Backes,Berglund,Nichol.....Berglund is a scorer not a distributor..Steen is not a C,neither is Oshie. They have WING depth..

Berglund would only go if we're geting a C in return.
Steen is a center converted to the wing, is he not? As with Sobotka and McDonald. If injuries were to occur they could slot in and still do well at their old positions.

I am terrified that the Flames are going to end up with both MacKinnon and Drouin by trading for an extra top 5 pick.

And the Avs ending up with Jones

So super deep that they are in a dogfight to make the playoffs. no doubt they have some very nice forwards and some excellent forward prospects. But they will likely have to rely on those prospects earlier than they would if they didn't have Bouwmeester.

Now I'm not saying Bouwmeester doesn't make them better but I don't think it makes them substantially better than the addition of a $4 mil D-first blueliner. Which leaves them more money to keep that depth up front longer and to protect the youngsters. Think where they would be if they had to play Tarasenko or Schwartz 16 minute a game instead of 12 (we all remember Tarasenko's lightning quick start...10 points in 8 games. 6 points in 16 games since). That is the type of thing that might very well happen going forward and I don't think that makes their team better.

Marc-Andre Bergeron traded to Carolina for Adam Hall and a 2013 7th rounder.

He's not a gamebreaker anymore. He's a good complimentary player for a team's 2nd line. He also happens to be an injury risk. If they give up a prospect like Khokhlachev or a 1st, it's a pretty bad deal.

I think he still is.

Gamebreaker doesn't mean he must be carrying his line. It means in a tight game, Jagr's unique skill set can create a great scoring chance.

He also helps their PP.

Friedman with his 30 Thoughts btw. Though it is trading season - does he usually do extra pieces this time of year:

It's a conditional 2nd, changes to a 1st if Boston gets to conference finals.

Safe to say Boston was already a favourite to reach the conference finals.

Also, this trade is still not official.

I know we hate the Bruins and have some mixed feelings about Lucic, but I wanted to post this because it's awesome.

There's Jagr in his prime and the goofy kid with the big smile on the left is none other than Milan Lucic, Jagr's new linemate. I love things like this, it's so cool to see people reach their dreams.

Might be a more interesting offseason then anticipated.

Eric Macramalla ‏@EricOnSportsLaw 1m
In speaking with some close to Rangers Brad Richards and the 7 years left on his deal MAY be bought - Gaborik gone too so need to retool

Hes tsn legal analyst if anyone cares, he was reliable during the lockout anyway.

What on earth? They haven't been great this year from what I've heard but that's a little drastic... The problem to me seems to be more their depth scoring than anything.

You're only allowed 3 compliance buyouts right? How can they lose Redden, Richards, AND Gaborik?
