The more I think about it realistically this is a horrible deal for Iginla. There wasn't much leverage and they still got koko.... Plus he is still a rental when you take away the sentimental value that he brought to the flames

EDIT: sorry isn't is what I meant

You'll either get Bs first or maybe re-sign Iggy in the offseason.
There is just added risk that I don't think the flames organization should have accepted
Take Matt B out of the deal if it meant we got a guaranteed 1st round pick in my opinion
There are just so many things that could happen in regard to signing with Boston unless they get it locked up ASAP
He could get hurt or he could play in Boston for awhile realize he hates being so far away from his family for so long so he goes to free agency and signs with someone like Vancouver which is close to his home in Calgary and place in kelowna
No one likes risk!!
It could end up essentially being Koko for Iggy (jury stills seems to be out if Matt B will ever be a regular NHL Dman)
That is just depressing as a flames fan

this is identical to the rick nash trade. on paper it's like "they just gave up a star for all these random blowhards?!" but in reality the GM was dealing with a disgruntled face of the franchise who would only accept a trade to specific teams. what do you expect him to do? the fact that big names get thrown around in these threads for these players is a joke. iginla wanted out, the GM had to get him out, he got what he could for him. no one is going to cut into their core or amazing prospects for a guy who is a UFA in a few months and has made it clear he wants off his current team.
I understand where you are coming from but there is a middle ground between a king's ransom for Iginla and a former 2nd round pick, a nobody, and a conditional first. This could go down as one of the worst trades in history; you keep on talking about Iggy as if he is 6 months away from absolute mediocrity when in reality we're talking about a legendary talent who is "only" 35.

This trade ****ing sucks. Face it. You are not the lone voice of reason here. Its a ****** ****ing trade and there's no two ways around it.

The deal actually sounds much worse when you realise that that conditional 1st will be in 2014, not 2013 as he could still re-sign with Boston after the draft and before FA.

So, 2 'nothing exciting' prospects + conditional 1st round in 2014. Pretty aweful.

When Feaster gets fired does anyone hire him?

Conditional first?

Congrats to the B's for that highway robbery...

Maybe Feaster knows he's getting canned this offseason and is bringing the Flames down with the ship.

I hope the Bruins bow out in the first round and Iginla signs with a different team

Most top flight UFA gets a 1st and a decent prospect or 2 at the deadline. Given that the Bruins are probably at worst going to be picking 23rd, they need to sweeten the pot a bit more

It's really one prospect and a thrown in minor leaguer...

Lucic-Krejci-Iginla just wow. I'm in shock.

Please take care of Koko and Bart Calgary fans.

Unfortunately, yeah, I don't really like this trade for Calgary. It just doesn't seem like there's one real nice piece in this return, unless of course the first is awarded. I can't believe the Flames weren't able to fetch a roster player. I was certain someone like Caron would be part of the package.

Khokhlachev is a pretty good prospect, don't get me wrong but Bartkowski is nothing special and could be an alright bottom-pairing or seventh defenseman some day at best I think. Then the first isn't even guaranteed and if it is it'll be a late one, although in a deep draft.

All that for the man that was the face of the Calgary Flames franchise for the last sixteen years seems like a very minimal and disappointing return. It leaves me wanting more. I love it for the Bruins and that sucks to say. It's a hard and emotional day for the Flames and Flames fans though, regardless of the return but it's the beginning of a new and hopefully brighter era in Calgary. This isn't something that anyone there wanted to happen but it had to.

Again, thankfully this whole saga is finally over.

And all my talk about "Clowe is gonna get better than a second, Murray got two seconds" is all moot because Jarome ****ing Iginla may have got a worse deal than Murray

I remember a couple years ago reading Feaster's THN articles and thinking to myself what a ****ing moron he is. I'm not a hardcore hockey fan, or incredibly intelligent when it comes to the sport, but it doesn't take either of those to understand that Jay Feaster should not be trusted for his hockey insights.
