Points for creativity / trying to address Toronto's team needs, but they're not going to trade Cody Franson at this point in time.

Wouldn't deal an unsigned Smid for that honestly.

I like Smid and he is probably better defensively, but I think the Leafs need Franson more right now.

Oilers like Smid. Leafs like Franson. Good luck getting either team to agree.

Leafs don't trade Franson. He's been amazing offensively for us and is great with Fraser

Brutal trade offer, want nothing to do with Franson. Even if Franson is not having a bad year, he's still a pylon, and is worth a 2nd or a 3rd at best.

Franson is better and younger, still an RFA.

Why the hell would the Leafs do this?

This is an absolutely horrible trade for the oilers.

Let me get this straight. Oilers sign their most valuable defenseman, who has the most defensive skill of the lot, who currently is 1 blocked shot away from the league leader, and is currently 18th in the league in hits. And then they trade him for that??

... I think not. Oilers easily say no.

Did you know that with all the technology these days, you can actually watch other team's games?

This is just brutal.

He still gets beat to the outside, and gets caught standing still too often for my liking. Like the Oilers, the Leafs allow a lot of shots, and why trade for another 3rd pairing D, the Oilers already have too many already.

As to watching the Leafs, yes unfortunately I've watched them, and some of them are playing great hockey, but Franson + Holtzer are a insult offer for Smid.

I've watched more Oilers games then I would like to admit, since I thought they were gonna be exciting, and Smid does not impress me in the least bit.

Franson has been solid defensively this season, and Smid would have to sell his soul to the devil to possess and ounce of Franson's offensive abilities. Franson is also younger, and is still an RFA.

I see no reason why the Leafs would make this trade.

While I have, admittedly, seen an improvement in Franson's game, he still is a 6'5 non-physical defenseman. He is also right-handed. As is Korbinian Holzer.

The Oilers' current need is a left-handed top-4 defenseman to share minutes with Smid.

Not two right-handed bottom-pairing defensemen replacing Smid.

Ya... Smid is more physical, a better skater, reads the play better, blocks drastically more shots, PKs, etc... Obviously Franson being spoon fed prime chances makes up for all of that. And they're a year and a half apart. There's hardly the age gap you're implying. Franson's improved a lot, but there's no chance he closes the gap by the end of next season. If you don't believe everyone else, go start a poll and let even more people laugh at you.

From the looks of things, Franson is playing protected minutes, plays the PP and 3rd pairing minutes, sounds like what Nashville did with him.
