Do people not realize that Reimer has been much better than Luongo this year?

He's terrible, lets in floaters and weak angle shots consistently. So many better options to look for a back-up.

It's not that he's untouchable, it's that Luongo isn't enough of an upgrade over Reimer and Scrivens (both of whom have played well) to justify subtracting such a huge piece of the team's forward group.

This team doesn't have anybody in the bottom 6 capable of filling Lupul's role. They're already low on forwards who have the combination of being able to win puck battles and finishing ability. They managed to score goals without him, but it's hard to know if that's sustainable, I mean Kadri was playing with Orr/Komarov as his linemates at one point.

The only way it makes sense is if the Leafs then make a second trade to fill Lupul's spot.

Luongo not an upgrade over Scrivens or Reimer

You sir are a troll and have probably never stayed up past your bedtime to watch a Canucks game in your life.

Right, so you understand why we don't want Luongo! Jokes aside, we don't need that contract for 2 quality seasons and 2 rounds of playoffs from Bobby Lou. It's all about winning the cup and we're not close to it what so ever. Trading a highly valuable forward for Luongo does us no good. I know most of these threads are started by Nucks fans these days but you guys are best suited to make Luongo to Florida rumors at this point. That said though, Markstrom looks to be the best out of any goalies from Leafs, Nucks and Panthers. Kid is going to carry his team for years.

I think his trends theory beats this Bill Waters senile day dream scenario any day.
I posted that because all of you leafers are saying he is 100% untouchable when he's been traded in and out of 5 different teams.

If he is such a faultless player, why is he always expendable ?

How hilarious is it that people in the Toronto media once considered Watters a legitimate candidate for the GM position.

This.

Toronto's losses this season have come from being outworked and outplayed in the defensive zone. The team needs to upgrade on the blueline in the context of a reliable stay-at-home defenceman, not a goaltender. Considering that the Leafs have nobody in the system capable of filling that role in the near future, and two young goalies with .918 sv% and $2.5m in combined cap hit, taking on Luongo's massive contract makes absolutely no sense.

BTW.... Bill Watters is a verified idiot.

This is as good as an Eklund rumour as far as I'm concerned. Few GM's would be this stupid. Certainly not Nonis.
How do you know Nonis is smart. How long has he been GM for? What trades has he made in the past for you guys?

I guess the writers find it easy to envision Luongo in blue and white given the Canucks uniforms.

For the record, I don't agree with the Lupul for Luongo deal, it's bad for the Leafs. I was just annoyed by the fact that people refer to Lu as a backup.

I also think that with a goalie like Luongo and a Top 4 D-man, you guys could challenge for the Cup. You guys have a great, dynamic offense.

They have very similar stats, so no he hasn't.

Reimer has better Sv% and has more wins/started more games.

Luongo has better GAA and more shutouts.

It's very debatable who has been better this year.

Reimer was good last year until he crashed and burned and the Leafs fell out of the playoffs.

Reminds me of JS Auban

Reimer has a .918 save %. Scrivens has a .915 save %.

We don't need a goalie people. Maybe if you're talking about a great young goalie but if not, we're not interested. Certainly not interested in getting old overpaid goalies Luongo or Kipper.

People keep assuming we need a goalie for some odd reason when they have been pretty good (Reimer was amazing pre-injury). We need defensemen and good ones at that.

Wow I hope not.

I just don't see how Luongo is a good fit for the Leafs at this point and Lupul's one of my favourite Leafs that they just re-signed.
