Maybe Gillis realized that with an NTC, he might end up with an Iginla value trade and now is scampering to get something done ASAP before it's too late.

I agree.

If we're being realistic when talking player value, Fistric might be the more enticing piece to a team looking to add components for a potential playoff run.

He and Ryan Jones are both UFAs and likely asking for raises this summer.

They both have decent value and moving both wouldn't necessarily make this team less competitive moving forward.

So.. is this Sportsnet with another bush league rumour or is Dekeyser not ready? Either one are believable.

Yup. Gillis has made so many bad moves the last 1-2 years. He should thank his lucky stars if somebody takes Luongo.

Overrated GM.

Sounds like the DeKeyser hold could have something to do with the Wings being mid-flight from SanJose. I'm not sure that you can read anything into that though. I'm sure he does not want them finding out via twitter when they turn their phones on after the flight, either way.

On Bouwmeester:

"Perhaps the biggest name left on the trade market is Jay Bouwmeester.

Thatís if he is indeed dealt.

The Calgary Flames donít have to necessarily move him -- heís got one more year left on his deal (at $6.6 million), so heís not a pending unrestricted free agent forcing the NHL club to seek immediate asset return.

But since the face of the franchise, Jarome Iginla, has been dealt, anything is possible now in Calgary.

"I think they move Bouwmeester," one NHL team executive told ESPN.com Friday. "But they want a lot for him."

As they should, frankly. Heís not a rental player and, at 29, heís in the prime of his career. Heís a top pairing blueliner and those donít come around easily in this league."

That's so true. All the key pieces of this team were put together by Burke or Nonis. Yet Canuck fans drool over Gillis like he's god. He's botched the Luongo situation. Traded Grabner + 1st for Ballard. Traded for Booth. Traded Hodgson for Kassian. Let go Ehrhoff, Mitchell, Salo. The kicker is he brought in CAM BARKER...lol

That was just straight arrogance. Likely his belief that Edmonton somehow screwed up in either utilizing him or motivating him. He also likely believed he could do a much better job because he thinks himself the better, smarter GM.

Sounds like we're getting close to a Detroit/DeKeyser announcement. Dreger seems to be alluding to that.

Still waiting for official word on Dan DeKeyzer's decision, but teams involved in the process believe Detroit is the destination of choice.

Frankly I am okay with that. We have Klefbom coming in next year and Schultz and Petry are still young. We need to add veterans to this team, not more youth.

Especially if it's true that they've told Kelfbom that they think he can jump right in and play with Schultz.

Great pickup by the Wings. Arguably a more complete player than Justin Schultz coming out of college, and can play a useful 5-6 role for them down the stretch and into the playoffs if required.

Looking at their depth, he could seal himself a job with the team until Quincey comes back.

Kronwall-White
B.Smith-Ericsson
Kindl-Dekeyser

Once Quincey comes back, he'll likely be their #7 in the playoffs.

Jeezus, where do you come up with this stuff??

Getting Dekeyser would have been nice from a prospect perspective but in no way is he a more complete player than Justin...Quit the hyperbole...

His defensive game at this point is more polished than Justin Schultz's. Even in his prime I don't see him producing like a rookie Schultz offensively, but from scouting reports and discussion on the main board most people are putting his defensive game above Schultz's.
