Agreed. Everyone knew the NTCs would burn the Flames eventually, and it's now coming true

If true, how could Feaster even ask him to waive? Family comes before work 1000 out of a 1000 times.

Why not just trade a 4th rounder for Kipper?

Actually, not too sarcastic but I don't see why not...it's close enough to Calgary AND he can split with Dubnyk, maybe even push him

Would also explain Kippers severe drop in play lately.

That's what I was thinking when it first got announced . Offer them a 7th. It's better than nothing...

Nice to see a hockey player who actually gets it.

His NTC is not in effect any more. It is speculated he will retire after the season is over, so he just doesn't want a trade for the rest of this season.

No to Kipper, he is statiscally the worst goalie in the league this year and by watching him play he is brutal. Khabby has been better then him this season and Kipper might retire next season.

So true. We should draft some crappy NCAA prospect this year that they can hype up as being a good return for Kipper

I wasn't necessarily referring to Kipper. Just the overall situation. The return for Iggy was crap compared to what it would've been on the open market. Hell, even compared to what Boston offered, it wasn't good.

That's true, but look at how many they have.

http://www.capgeek.com/flames/

I could understand if this was a roster that's won a Cup recently, but...

For comparison, here are the Oilers.

http://www.capgeek.com/oilers/

Only one NTC although I'm not sure if Eberle/Hall have ones upcoming.

John Shannon just said this on Sportsnet. "Hemsky isn't in play yet because the Oilers - don't laugh - still believe that they can make the playoffs."

Sigh.

We're still close. At this point, we're among the teams that are winning streak away from the playoffs, and a losing streak away from picking top 5

To play "devil's advocate" on this, first it's John Shannon, second keeping Hemsky, if they feel they're close-ish, isn't a huge lost because it's not as if he walks in the summer.

Keeping Whitney on that thought process is another story though.

The analyst sitting next to Shannon could see Hemsky landing in NJ. Not sure what they'd expect to get back from the Devils.

Cue the Hemsky + for Kovie proposals...

Or cue NJ fans offering us Tallinder + 2nd.

But Shannon is a joke, Seems like he takes shots at the Oil anytime he can. Playoffs would be nice but I am just happy we are in the hunt this time of year.

Can someone shoot me now. That idiot oiler blogger for hockeybuzz has some how gotten given the golden nod for being a legit source is suggesting Smid and a pick to Calgary for Jay Boy.

Next time we have a discussion about how this site has changed over the years and I try to defend it by saying not really--remind me that here a kid with no connections to anything is considered a legit source.

I saw that on the main board , Isn't this the same Cloutier who said we would be having a 3 way trade? That went well

With all the rumours circulating that Boston will be desperately looking for trade partner, what would be some of the more realistic trades that could happen?

Boychuk (assuming he isn't on the IR) for Whitney ?

Probably not. If we're trading with Boston, we're probably looking at prospects

If Whitney does get traded to Boston then I would think we would be getting back a 2nd round pick or a prospect like Jordan Caron. Would love to some how get Anthony Camara but now that seems unlikely with the acquisition of Kessy.

Kipper's NTC expired last year or the year before.

Sorry already been addressed by others.

I think Whitney would go for basically the same package Douglas Murray did.

If we did get a second rounder I would package it up asap for an established guy. And if we got a 2nd I would be a happy camper

It all fell apart because Iginla went to the Pens. The Oilers getting Lucic was all contingent on Iginla going to the Bruins. That's why Tambellini went and got a Lucic of his own today in Kessey. You just have to connect the dots!
