Hoping Murray will be a disappointment, just like he was in Djurgården this season.

14 games, 1 goal, 2 assists. Please!

Defense and goaltending will still be a question mark going into the playoffs.
Agreed, 'being in the loop' for 3 weeks is meaningless...

Unless during those 3 weeks they made some moves which gave them large defensive upgrades. If it's based just on performance and stats, well.
Bryzgalov was the best goalie in the NHL bar none last year. He was also the worst. He spent 3 weeks where you could easily argue both of those titles applied to him... So 3 weeks of good defense and goal-tending with close to 20 games before the playoffs and months before the finals isn't exactly saying anything conclusive.

I'm not panicking. They still have Fleury in net.

Three weeks a season does not make.

I am unimpressed with Pitt. They have yet to address the reasons they failed last year: defense and goaltending.
It wasn't defense and goaltending. It was the forwards and defenseman deciding to play pond hockey.

Great teams get beat all the time in the playoffs. But keeping in mind some embarrassing early exits for the Pens in recent memory, I think they're done with those. It can only happen so many times.

What loop are you in that has 3 weeks dictate a season?

Take it from an Eagles fan, NEVER believe that your team is unbeatable

Until they can learn to play defense they wont win anything. Boston to take the east still.

The Penguins look like a non-champion Yankees team. Too bloated and full of individual players.

That third line almost negates their defensive weaknesses altogether. Cooke-Sutter-Morrow? That's a pretty nasty matchup.

The way the standings are going, they'll likely face either the Rangers or the Devils in the first round. Both of those teams have the potential to give Pittsburgh a rude awakening. Both have underachieved quite a bit this year, and I don't care who Pittsburgh has at forward because it won't matter if they run into a hot Lundqvist or hot Brodeur.

As a pens fan this is hilarious cause it's true. Fleury is capable of bombing the playoffs even if we had every captain in the NHL on our team. Luckily Pen's GM, Shero, made the smart move to pick up Voukun who has been wonderful in the net and is arguably better than Fleury on a lot of nights.

I don't know about the Pens automatically winding up in the finals but I pity whichever team has to face them in the playoffs. Have you ever seen a lineup with so much leadership?

I'd be happy if two random teams made it to the finals playing counter productive hockey (ie: shut down defense and win games 1-0) - forcing all GMs to modify the way they build their teams... again.

There was a time when skill and puck possession would win you games (ala Detroit).
Then it became toughness with a mix of skill (ala Boston and LA).
Next up, waves and waves of human shields blocking every single one of the Penguins shots.

It's tough to give up goals if Crosby, Iginla, Kunitz, Malkin, Morrow and Dupuis spend the entire game cycling the puck below the other team's net.

The Pens have given up nine goals in their last nine games.

Fleury's shaky sometimes, but I feel pretty good about having him in goal. He's won before for a reason.

But ... there's nothing near a guarantee here. I think, even in this excitement, most rational Pittsburgh fans realize that.

Championships aren't won on paper. Pens fans (who were on the exact opposite side of this with Hossa) should know this all too well.

They have insurance for just about every position. The team is deeeeeep.

Beau Bennett's on the fourth line, and not as a demotion. What? Oh, and there's Kennedy somewhere, too.

And on defense and goaltending? The Pens have given up like nine goals in their last 10 games or something like that. Too tired to look.
I can't wait to watch this team in the playoffs.. hopefully fail.

They were already unbeatable without Iginla I don't think this is one of those instances in the off season you get a guy then you think the team is gonna be a lot better (see NYR). This is a team that is built to win are winning and will continue to win.

And Morrow + Iginla are the exact opposite of types who would mess with that.
