And the reason this was possible? Dealing Staal for an equal part in Sutter ++, opening up enough cap space for THREE significant pieces, including Jarome ****ing Iginla.
It's hilarious to me that people think Shero had some sneakiness in pulling this off.

Calgary did a service to Iginla, putting him at the best possible opportunity for a cup. Possibly under the assumption that he'll return to Calgary next year.

CGY just gets wrecked in every trade. This team needs a new GM fast.

People overvalue rentals. I've seen more in the past paid for other players, but Iggy is on the downswing, and he's just going to re-sign in Calgary in the summer. Why would you pay a lot for that?

We had multiple teams that we were dealing with, had multiple offers, Calgary general manager Jay Feaster told reporters after announcing the deal. At end of the day, its a process of working with the player as well. The player had a no-trade, no-move and in this instance the deal that we consummated, this is where the player was prepared to wait for.
Fair enough.

It was ultimately Iginla's choice. Calgary respects him and let Iginla decide. There is nothing more to this. There are no big deals or nothing. Same thing as what Ray Bourque did. If the Bruins were playing good and in 1st place he may have went to the Bruins instead, but they are playing like crap.

You might be right but the only way I see the Pens getting knocked out early is if Fleury craps the bed again. They might decide to go with a new coach but it also might be a good idea to get a new goalie. I think he's their weak link once the playoffs start and that's why I'm not ready to hand them the cup like others are.

I agree with this.

I dont think he thought he really needed Iginla anyway. He would have been fine standing pat.

Three weeks ago Feaster was willing to give up a 1st and 3rd for ROR. A few days ago, he turns around and decides to blow it up.

Irrespective of the value gotten back for Iginla, you think the man is working with a plan or vision here? What a moronic way to manage an operation.

I go to bed and he is nearly dealt to Boston, I wake up and he is gone to Pittsburgh.
Interesting to say the least.
Not surprised though. Pittsburgh is the best fit imo

So B.Morrow gets a quality top 3 prospect like J.Morrow and all Iggy gets is the 30th pick.

Things are bad in Flame land.

Tons of pressure on Fleury now.

These playoffs will truly determine where he stands league wide. This could ruin him or vice versa.

The package isn't garbage, but definitely not what I expected, considering what Morrow got. Rightfully could be called highway robbery.

Hanowski has a chance to be a top-6er. He's in his senior year, so he'll be in the AHL at least. He's quietly had a pretty solid college career.

Agostino is a feisty guy, whose ceiling is a 2nd wheel on a second line, similar to Kunitz. It's much more likely, however, that he ends up as a solid bottom sixer. He's quick, and plays the right way.

That said, I'm freaking pumped to land Iggy.

Holy fleeced. I feel bad for Calgary fans. Heck, I feel like Iggy needed to have some sense of self worth... Two prospects that will will never touch the NHL ice and what should be 29/30th overall pick?

/end bruins fan venting after a long night of the world saying Iginla to Boston/

Problem with Calgary is they have a bad GM and they also have a bunch of players with NTC's that make things much harder. Try trading a guy who says he won't report if he gets traded. Try trading a guy who only wants to go to 1 or 2 teams. Not easy.

Shero offered a low to fair package. Either Iginla picked Pittsburgh as his entire list or Feaster decided to reward the guy with his best chance for the cup instead of taking the best offer.

Why do people listen to the media on these rumors. They're wrong on these "rumors" more than they're right.

...

Who are these goalies who are clearly better than Fleury and are absolutely any of them available? How would the Penguins go about acquiring any of these goalies by next year? It's pretty easy to say "Fleury is the weak link, if they had Lundqvist they'd be great" but Lundqvist is neither available nor like to come available.

Who is this 'new goalie' that we can just pick up and go with? Mike Smith? Roberto Luongo? Pass and pass.

Is it true Hanowiski in the deal is a UFA at the end of the year?

I don't think offering more would have mattered. Iginla decided he was going to Pittsburgh and that's that.

I really hate the way this whole thing played out.

obviously disappointing that Iginla didn't pick teh bruins better deal for what he believes is the easier road to the cup.

Here's hoping he never reaches that goal

Feaster is a terrible GM. Like the worst. Trade-***** by Shero. But I quite enjoyed his reach around with the Bruins.

Good day for all hockey fans except for Bruins and Flames.

When is Feaster going to get fired? He's just the worst...

I hope we face PIT in the conference finals and send them to the gold course and I get
To watch iginla, on one knee, blankly staring into the distance, looking up at the jumbotron
Knowing he made the wrong decision.

No I'm not bitter....
