Count me among the "What in the world" group-just got on, went to tsn, and saw "Iginla to have press conference" and I mentally added "about Boston trade"

Then saw "Pittsburgh"

I had to read it twice and I was like "what in the world?"

As a Leafs fan, I heavily approve of what just happened. I feel for Flames fans though. I know what it's like to have your captain of over a decade suddenly end up in another team's colours.

I just can't understand why anyone is mad at Iginla for choosing Pittsburgh over Boston. I mean, how dare he choose to go to the team with the best chance of winning the cup where he can play on a line with the best play on the world ...

solution? stop employing aaron ward
Presenting speculation as fact seems to be Aaron Wards modus operandi.
Trying to make a name for himself , he overreached.

Its a black eye for TSN whose most respected insider, Bob McKenzie, prided himself on never jumping the gun.

I feel sorry for Flames fans. And for those arguing that rentals don't bring in much return, you can actually argue that Brendan Morrow brought back more than Iginla, because Joe Morrow is essentially a blue chip prospect. None of the three components that Iginla returned are blue chippers, and I take quality over quantity every day of the week. You think the Flames would be able to get at least one of Bennett/Maatta/Pouliot/Despres in a trade for Iginla, along with a B prospect and a pick.

Went to bed last night with full knowledge he was going to Boston, walking to work see this news ticker over the street saying Iginla to Penguins and laughed to myself at the fail.

Turns out it was true. God damn Penguins.

It's not a horrible trade for Calgary I mean they did get a 1st round pick... but Feaster should have told Pittsburgh straight up if you trade Morrow then there's no deal - we want joe morrow + 1st + 2nd then settle for like 1st + Morrow + 3rd since they traded the seconds away... oh well Calgary had to do it. Sucks that they likely lost Iginla for nothing... the chances of that late firster every developing into a good top 6 forward or top 4 defensmen is pretty unlikely - possible. but unlikely.

You can't really blame the Flames, apparently they preferred a Boston deal but the 3rd party (Iginla) chose pitsburgh

anybody saying feaster should have taken the Boston deal should shake their heads. feaster would have asked iggy whether he preferred going to Boston or Pitts without knowing what he was being traded for. iggy says Pitts and feaster knows that if he sends him to Boston the odds of the conditional pick coming back is slim as he would probably sign in Pitts or elsewhere.

My thoughts exactly.

I like the Flames and am quite disgusted at this as a return for them. I KNOW that most HFBoards Flames fans are not happy since they were asking for a far higher return over the last little while than that. Especially after seeing what Morrow got!

Painful for Calgary...********** painful...sigh...

No, and if they do, the NHL salary cap is officially as worthless as the NFL.

I cry as a Rangers fan who has to watch a line of Crosby, Malkin, Ignila destroy my team.

If its true that Feaster let him pick then thats a major FAIL....

Iggy gave the list already. You bring him the ONE team that gave you the offer you liked most.

The BOS package does not look to bad now...

As much as I dislike the Penguins, I despise Jeremy Jacobs more. So, good for the Penguins.

Still, because they're so stacked now, and because I follow teams in the West and don't really care about the East, I'm going to be rooting against them the entire way.

At the end of the day he was still given a say since he has been the face of that franchise for his entire career. It's called respect.

Today, I have to say goodbye to two things: 1 being the face of my favorite team for 20 years, the second being obssesively following the Iginla rumor thread for 2 straight weeks.

The prophecy is coming true. The Flames are the Maple Leafs circa 2005, they even have Matt Stajan playing top-6. Enjoy the basement for the next 5 plus years.

They held onto these guys for two long. Fans on HF have been screaming about how the Flames should deal Kipper and Iginla for 2 years and now one doesn't want to move and the other got scrap in return.

PITT looks well positioned to be a major player in the playoffs. Glad they are in the East and my team won't have to go through them in order to get to the finals. They are going to be very tough to beat.
