It's odd how this all works. Murray is basically worthless, then gets 2 2nds. Even San Jose fans were basically saying give us a 3rd you can have him.

Then you get big ticket players like this and they come at such a low price.

Honestly, the NTC/NMC have so much to do with it.
The second 2nd rounder is conditional on him re-signing. Big difference.

Didn't hear what happened, but basically on the East Coast, everyone went to bed thinking the Bruins had Iggy in the bag...then what?

Well, here is your reason why he should have been fired a few weeks ago.
Because one official with the NHLPA stated his opinion of the contract, that does not mean the Flames would have lost their picks. That's not how contracts work, and the way the contract is written suggests that Feaster was right.

Yeah, but then it just becomes a 3rd rounder instead

The Calgary Flames are not a very good team at making trades - see Phaneuf and Regehr. And this is also a good example of why NTC can really hurt a team. And Calgary gives those out like candy on halloween.

100% agree. If they were trading with anyone else, they would have gotten 2 roster players and a prospect. When dealing to a playoff/leading contender, you end up gambling hard on youth.

pretty sure it is dependent on their playoff run this year, not his re-signing. Possible I was hoodwinked at some point along the way...

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=419077

"The 2014 draft choice is conditional upon the Penguins winning two playoff rounds this year or the team re-signing Murray for the 2013-14 season. Should either event occur, the Sharks will receive the Penguins second round selection in 2014, should neither occur, the pick becomes a third-rounder."

pretty surprised calgary gets a couple nobodies in return for the face of their franchise. at least boston offered a top forward prospect in their package. i suppose it's a moot point if it was jaromes call in the end though.

I went to bed just after Aaron Ward said on TSN he had confirmation from the Bruins that the deal was done and he could say it publicly. This after he left the panel to go answer an important call. The guy looks like an idiot now.

As a fan of the Flyers, I have no bias opinion here.

Why is everyone slamming Feaster? Clearly he made the trade that Iginla wanted. He put him first. He got a 1st rounder and 2 prospects. Should he have NOT traded him? Then EVERYONE would be saying he is trash for not starting a re-build.

As for Pitt, they were in the drivers seat. Once they knew Iginla wanted to go there, of course they were not going to trade a 1st and Matta for example. Good for them. Certainly look to be the favorite.

Now how will Boston react?

Feaster should have just ****ed Iginla and said "OK you're staying in CGY then, no chance at a Cup for you!"

maybe that's the problem. he should have put his team first, boston offered a better package than pittsburgh. maybe jarome is better off in pittsburgh but i dont believe the flames are.

Then Iginla would have walked in the summer and signed with Pittsburgh anyway. Feaster stupid, but I'm glad he's smarter than you.

Hanowski projects as a 2L winger with average skill but good size, while Agostino projects as a 3L winger comparable to Rangers captain Ryan Callahan. Not a bad deal as these assets can be used in the future if development proceeds nicely.. Just like any other prospect. Our top draft pick and Penguins pick can be used to build a top level prospect core. We also have more trade assets than can be used to fetch top level prospect and draft picks. Here's to Seth Jones or Nathan Mackinnon.

Calgarypuck is happy with the return, according to them Hanowski and Agonoli is better than Koko and Bartowski

I agree with you. I don't get this concept that Calgary should've gotten a king's ransom for a rental player on the downside of his career.

No. If Boston's 1st was conditional then it was not a better package.

Pittsburgh won't have the cap space to sign him in the offseason, no chance that would have happened.

It's a good trade for both teams. Anyone who knows college hockey knows the Flames got a solid deal.

I really dont mind this deal at all. HFBoards can cry all they want but this is a sign from the Flames mgmt that things need to change now. No more trying to make the post season with the same old crew. Whether any of these guys turn into future NHL superstars, Feaster added prospects to the Flames pool with 2 guys and 1 first rounder. This pool needs to grow and this is a way to do it.

The Flames are looking into the future and not in the past. That is what I am happy with.
