Martin St. Pierre signed with a new team today, so Rockford will need a new captain this fall.

Assuming he doesn't stick with the Hawks, I'd bet Ryan Stanton would be first in line. I think he was already wearing an A, and I think he's one of Rockford's longest-tenured players.

The most probable Rockford captains are both going to make the team, IMO, in Stanton and Smith. The next guy I'd probably give it to is Morin, who'll also be on the team.

Chicago will probably sign an AHL vet or two, and whoever that is will be named captain.

C - AHL vet signing
A - Jimmy Hayes
A - Adam Clendening
A - Wade Brookbank

Hayes and Clendening rotate road/home.

As of right now there is very little chance Stanton is on team

We shall wait and see but Hawks don't seem to desire moving Brookbank at this point

I have a feeling that both won't make the Hawks

Based on what? He'll be moved, don't worry about it.

It's not a problem depending on how much they get Kruger down for. Otherwise, it could be a problem. I mean, either way, Chicago will be under the cap next year.. but how much breathing room do they want? You'd think they'd want some.

Corey Pronman rated the Blackhawks as the 9th strongest franchise in terms of prospects

2 Cups in 4 years. A top 10 farm system by most experts opinions. A GM that preaches building a team through the draft rather than free agency.

We are going to be good for a long time boys.

Just think where we'd be if prospect age players like Saad, Leddy, Kruger, and Shaw were still in the minors

I'm the last person to defend Tallon's drafting, but neither were bad picks at the time. Beach was widely considered a top-10 pick and Olsen was taken 28th overall. The fact that he's played 20+ games to this point means he's been a fairly successful pick.

a late 1st round pick should never be considered a bust. It's a crap shoot by that pick.

ummm not really. Up to the mid 2nd, it's not that much of a crapshot and most of those players end up as regulars.

From a website:

•Based on the 1990s sample, a first-round draft pick has a 63 percent chance of being a career player.

•From 1990 to 1999, about one-quarter of the players selected in the second round turned into NHL career players.

Most is exaggerating, I would say at best it's 50/50, which is a crap shoot.

If you ever want a dose of perspective, go on to www.hockeydb.com, look up any draft year you want and scroll down the lists.

I read in 2 or 3 places last week that Stan tried to move Brookbank. I would like to see Stanton get a good look, but, that said, Brookbank is fine as a 6/7 guy. This may have to wait until next season to get sorted out.

Beach also had plenty of red flags off ice (and on) and a history of concussions

What is a "good pick at the time" mean anyways?

Good value according to online sources?

When GM reaches for pick..."wait and see how good he turns out"
When good value pick busts..."it was a good pick at the time...can't predict he'd bust"

GMs can't lose! There is no such thing as a good pick at the time IMO unless that player turns into an NHLer. Yes, obviously every GM picks duds and reaches on players that don't turn out but they should be held accountable for years of bad drafts. A good pick at the time means nothing. You draft to get the best player in the future, not praise from TSN.

Who was your pick in 2008 @ 11 ? There is no such thing as a reach in the draft ?

I understand that when a guy produces at the NHL level we all can agree he was a good pick...that isn't difficult.
