It please me to be able to provide an update on the Anaheim Ducks.
I have been in the position of GM for about a month now and have made one or two changes. Some have been popular amongst fans and some may not. However, they have been made to ensure the best product on the ice for the fans of Anaheim.
Fact: The western conference is the dominant conference, lead by the triple headed monster in the Central Divsion.
Fact: The Queens of Los Angeles have a good team, but we will overtake them for the division crown.
Fact: Our system had some good pieces, but overall isn't where we felt comfortable with it.
Fact: We need an elite scorer. A deal is in place, provided it receives the blessing of the league trade department. Also, a future prospect who we have a high value on is coming to Anaheim.
Fact: Our team has been spending money, but it has purpose. Key pieces are under lock and key now. Others could become available in the post season to free up salary for the 2013/14 roster.
Therefore, the decision was made to move some of those pieces (God speed Jaden Schwartz.....) and enhance the pro roster. Our amateur scouting department left upon new management and we are working on filling those positions so draft picks were made available. We hope to have those positions filled and perhaps swing some deals in the offseason to get some extra 2013 draft picks.
Our coach is working on developing a slight change to strategy regarding how the team plays. Our backup goaltending has not been good enough, but luckily Pekka Rinne is a beast.
Our flight path is strong....our team is willing....we may not be mighty anymore....but we be quackin'.
