Doubt Wideman gets moved.

That deal also just downgrades Calgary's defence for a second. How is Kostka a good piece for a rebuilding team?

First 3 trades, easy yes as a Flames fan. Last one, easy no. Stempniak's stock should be rising, Stajan and him match up against teams top lines, yet they are the only + players (even after their terrible game yesterday) and they put up impressive points on even strength. His contract isn't too shabby either at another year with 2.5M. If a 2nd's all they can get for him at the deadline might as well just hold onto him until next years.

Disagree on Butler. He's worth more than a 3rd. Especially this year.

Forwards:

Cammalleri - 1st + decent prospect
Tanguay - 1st + mediocre prospect
Hudler - 1st
Cervenka - 3rd
Stajan - 2nd (seriously, he's awesome)
Stempniak - 2nd + 5th
Comeau - 5th
Begin - 6th
Jackman - 7th

Unavailable: Baertschi (duh!), Backlund (he's made good strides, I'd rather keep him), Glencross (signed at an unbelievable price), McGrattan (he's the perfect babysitter moving forward)

Defensemen:

Giordano - 1st + stellar prospect
Bouwmeester - 1st + decent prospect
Wideman - 1st + decent prospect
Butler - 4th
Smith - 6th
Sarich - 6th
Babchuk - 7th/future considerations

Unavailable: Brodie (he's a stud and future top pairing guy for us)

Goalies:

Kiprusoff - 2nd/decent prospect
MacDonald - 4th

Tried to be fair, but this is generally what I see their value as. Interpretations of stellar, decent, mediocre prospects will vary.

For reference's sake:

stellar prospect: Alex Kokhlachev
decent prospect: Kenny Agostino
mediocre prospect: Ben Hanowski

I'll be pissed if Feaster doesn't ship out another 3 or 4 bodies by Wednesday, the rest we can deal with in the summer. We need to stockpile as many prospects/picks as we can for the next couple of years.

I'd be willing to offer Jesse Blacker/Joe Colborne and a 1st for Bouwmeester. Kind of steep, but he might be the reason why we make it past the 1st round or we don't.

Flames pass. I am betting they will get a better return somewhere.

Are we watching the same Chris Butler? I'd be happy with a 4th.

3rd and a C prospect for Stajan

Edit: Never mind unless Calgary retains salary on him, bad contract for what he'd do for us.

Decline. Stajan is worth is caphit. Zero chance we eat any of his caphit. He's been a new player this season, and has even shown a little nasty to his game... He's made me a believer. (This coming from a former Stajan-hater).

If Ottawa is trading for one of Calgary's depth defencemen I'd much rather it be Butler.

I feel like with Calgary rebuilding, eating a chunk of his salary is a good way to get a bit extra value.

The team can afford it, likely won't press near the cap the next 2 years, and if they can get an extra pick to eat a couple bucks of salary?

I doubt ownership would shell out 1.75M for a 5th round pick.

Why? Not a rhetorical question, just can't see it.

He was a healthy scratch a week ago, and had been a couple times in February. Not to say anyone who is a healthy scratch is worthless, but he's fighting with Smith and Sarich to stay in the lineup. If he can't do that regularly what gives him value?

Sure, Murray was a healthy scratch and got a 2nd + another easily attainable conditional 2nd, but he adds something of value to a team like the Penguins. A big mean crease clearing defender is what they were looking for.

What team is looking for someone like Butler? A soft bottom pairing defensemen who's suppose to be mobile but is caught out of position all the time and can't read the play. A supposed puck mover but nobody wants him anywhere near the powerplay and hasn't contributed at all offensively this year. I get that bottom pairings aren't the cream of the crop but he's not really good at any one thing.

At least Babchuk brings his shot. Sarich is a veteran presence who has ring and is going to throw his body around. Neither are worth much if anything, but there's a clear reason why a team would pick them up if they did.

As a Leaf fan, i'm interested in JBo and Giordano.

And Kipper as well, but only to ensure our goalie depth but as Kipper said, he's in a pickle right now so maybe later. What would CGY want from us for Giordano and JBo?

How do Flames fans feel about JBo for a 1st, Morgan Ellis/Louis Leblanc and Ryan White from the Habs?
