He stood in there, but was kinda jumped from behind, and never really got going, slight edge to Portland player, as Forbert lost balance and fell down. Gordie Howe hat trick though, good for you Forbort.

Good to see Forbort having a good start. Might just be one of those kids who needed to take the next step to develop.

Much needed too. With guys like Regehr and Mitchell on a steep decline, we are going to need at least one of Forbort or Gravel to make it to the NHL if we don't want to lose significant assets.

Well I wanted the season preview article to be done a lot sooner but there were issues. Now it'll be turned in to a preview for the home opener. I'll post when it's actually up. Bleh.

Roach sitting? Deslauries playing forward over guys scrub ECHL'ers or borderline NHL players? Ehhh.

Why are the Kings letting there best prospects not play or play out of position over Schultz, LoVerde and Bodnarchuk. None of these guys have a future with LA...same with Campbell.

They want to win. Manchester should be able to compete with that roster, and they want to develop a winning development culture. The standard of development shouldn't be to see whoever can succeed on a failing team.

Roach was an UFA(un-drafted) signing out of camp, the guy was not drafted by the Kings.

He has to earn his minutes just like everyone else....

Deslauries was never going to make it in the Kings system as a Defender, the Guy was Jack Johnson 2.0

This is Roach's first AHL season and the guys you mention have played a few seasons. It's 2 games in, give it some time. There could be a learning curve that Roach needs to overcome or maybe he's out of shape. I'm sure we'll find out. But Roach will get some games in.

I like the idea of Deslauries on wing. If he can be Burns 2.0, we will be very happy. The dude can skate, hit and battle better than LA's other options in the pipeline at the moment. Why not at least experiment with it.

I would like to hear some opinions from some that have seen him play if they think Des can become a crash and bang LW.

Without a doubt. His game and lack of hockey sense make him an ideal speedy 3rd line/4th line winger.

Monarch won again today 3-0 over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers! Martin Jones with the shutout. Goals from Schultz, Pearson, and Toffoli (en)

Monarchs are now 3-0-1 to start the season.

Anyone watching the Monarchs so far who can provide some input on how individual players are looking other than the stats are showing?

Can't wait to actually give some valuable input in this thread. First home game is the 19th, so only a few more games. Not going on the 20th but after that, you guys will get a long stretch of me at every home game giving updates for the few that care.

PS. First article re-written. So HOPEFULLY this time it'll be up soon. Plan was to have it out on the 19th but we'll see.

Also, Jones was AHL Player of the Week. 3-0, 1.27 GAA, .956 Sv % and a shutout. Killed it.

Roach should be in Calgary or with another Dub team. No point of sitting in the press box, especially considering that he probably shouldnt be in the first place.

I disagree. Remember what happened to Jordan Weal last year? Was a frequent healthy scratch the first ~10 games or so. He learned the pro game, and quickly became one of the Monarchs' premier scoring options.

Roach is ready for the pro game. There's a bit of a logjam at D for the Monarchs, but he'll get his chance.

I have to wonder, why hasn`t Kitsyn played in a game yet? and when is Deslauriers going to go back on D? he really is not a good forward, but yet, they healthy scratch 1 or 2 forwards every game so far. I don`t get it.

Kozun looks good so far. Hope he gets a cup of coffee this year, at least a game or two.

When I talked to Kitsyn, he said the biggest thing for him was learning the system. My guess is he's adjusting to the NA game still AND learning the system. And Des might be better suited at forward. He really might be.

Kitsyn's game is raw, really raw. Spending those years in the KHL playing 9 mins a night basically stunted his development.

Maxim is basically starting over. He will spend the next two years (maybe more) in Manchester learning the NA game.

Don`t get me wrong, I like him, on defence, I watched the Monarchs past 4 games via live streaming. The problem with Des is he can`t take a pass while in motion or in the skates or even a little behind him, most natural forwards can do this quite easily. like I said I`m not knocking the kid, I just prefer him on D. I get it he scored 4 goals in a game, an amazing feat on it`s own, more than likely a fluke of a game, it happens every now and then. but to have 5 guys on the 4th line while playing a defenceman on forward, doesn`t give the real forwards a lot of hope, developing is not going to happen by sitting on the end of the bench or in the stands.I don`t think Des is a Brent Burns IMHO.

MuchoRoacho aka Alex Roach down to Ontario (ECHL). Smart move. Instead of riding the press box, get him some valuable ice time.
