The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded their Captain and longtime center Vincent Lecavalier to the Anaheim Ducks. This is the 2nd of big deals the Lightning have made to rebuild this season, after trading Martin St. Louis to the Ducks' division rival Los Angeles Kings. We are sad to see Vinny go, but it was the right time for the player and organization to part ways.

The full deal:

To TBL: Peter Holland, Sami Vatanen, NYI 2013 2nd
to ANA: Vincent Lecavalier and Sami Salo

Tampa Bay retains $2,727,273 of Lecavalier's contract and $1,000,000 of Salo's contract.

Ducks confirm the move.

We needed to add a dominant center to compete vs teams like Chicago and Pittsburgh and we did just that by gettting Lecavalier. We now have a trio of center who have always raised their game come playoff time and proved to take games over with their play. We feel this addition makes us one of the top Stanley Cup contender come playoff time.

Salo also adds a very good top 4 capable of eating solid minutes and play a complete game on the back end.

Still can't believe Vinny's contract. If he retires after 2016/17 season when his salary drops to $4M, the Lightning will carry a $5.566M cap hit for the following 3 seasons.

Paajarvi is still available. Looking to package him for a big, physical, defensive-minded 2nd pairing LH d-man

Pending UFAs Jones, Fistric, Sutton, Petrell and Khabibulin could all be had for picks/prospects.

get your offers in!

Well I sure as hell wasn't gonna hold my breath waiting for an overpaymemt like that.

I'm still happy with the deal, Hemsky should see a resurgence away from the onslaught of youth in Edmonton.

Worth the price, IMO.

Clarkson has stepped up his game big time the past couple of years, especially during the Devils' playoff run last year where they made an appearance in the Stanley Cup Final, and he has played very well this season. He's a character guy, who does everything on the ice and thrives in the playoffs. He will make a great addition and be an important part of the Blues moving forward.

Still have some guys who can help you in your playoff run:

Mike Smith -- Because of the ownership situation in PHX we may not be able to re-sign him. Mike wants ownership settled before making a commitment. At this point we're still unsure where we'll be playing next year, so we're open to moving him to a contender. A couple of picks or pick and solid prospect.

Steve Sullivan -- Put him on a line with better talent than he had in PHX, and Sully can still score and dish. Speed is still there. Still has finishing skill. Just no one to get him the puck in PHX. Pick and/or forward prospect works.

Boyd Gordon -- An elite penalty killer and one of the best face-off guys in the NHL. Any team pushing for a playoff run will benefit from having Boyd on the roster. Guy gives 110% every night. Pick and/or forward prospect works.

Kyle Chipchura -- Chip has become a reliable bottom-six forward during his 2 years here. He can play C or W, and is outstanding on the forecheck. Pick or Prospect

Stephane Robidas could be traded by the deadline. I was going to keep him after looking at the offers, but a team adjust their offer recently. I'm still no 100% sold on moving him in that deal so this is the last chance to consider some more offers.

I will retain 50% of his contract so he will only have a cap hit of $1.65 million.

Sens agree. Tough to give up those two pieces, but Ruutu is exactly what this organization has been looking for. He'll be a great fit alongside Spezza and Michalek in the playoffs.

Yikes.

I'm not a fan of this move for Ottawa. Ruutu isn't worth one of those assets alone let alone both IMO.

Maybe not a move I'd be a fan of "in real life", but i felt like Stone was a piece I could use now that Zibanejad and Silfverberg have cemented themselves as NHLers.

On that note, Sens are taking all inquiries for Latendresse and Benoit. Likely done dealing though as the roster is pretty much set.

SUPPLY:

Everyone is available to a degree (except Huberdeau & Couturier). I value my youth but they aren't untouchable in the right deal.
- Scottie Upshall: would look for a contract-for-contract type swap.
- Tomas Fleischmann: doubtful I'll deal him. Would want a 1st and/or prospect coming back
- Tomas Kopecky: 2nd + prospect or 1st gets him.
- Marcel Goc: best offer was a young defenseman. Otherwise, a 2nd gets the conversation going.
- Jerred Smithson: 4th/comparable prospect for the veteran 4th line center.
- Filip Kuba: 3rd/4th pick gets him
- Scott Clemmensen: may keep as backup. But he's a veteran backup for any team looking.

DEMAND:

Open to discussion. Inquire about someone and we'll see if theres a deal to be made.
- Looking for a tough middle-aged or veteran LH defenseman to pair/mentor Gudbranson.
- Would like to bolster my defense prospect crop.
- Interested in picks in 2013.

We've made a deal with the Vancouver Canucks. Heading out of Jersey is Marek Zidlicky, in exchange the Devils picked up David Booth.
