Kari Lehtonen vs Henrik Lundqvist

Who's better of these 2 goaltenders?

I'm a huge Rangers fan but I absolutely love Lehtonen. IMO he's top 5, if not top 3. Vastly underrated.

Who would you choose for your team?

Lundqvist is 31 years old, Lehtonen turns 30 at the end of this year.

Lundqvist caphit:$6,875,000 vs Lehtonen's: $3,550,000, gonna be $5,900,000 starting next season though.

Lundqvist is just coming off a Vezina trophy season while Lehtonen has been great for Dallas for years while not getting close to the same recognition.

So who is better now and who'd you choose if you had to?

I'm a Kari fan and agree he hasn't always been getting the recognition he deserves, but Lundqvist is on different level.

And it's at this point that Lehtonen starts to become so underrated he's overrated...

I think Lundqvist is better but I'm not the only one with an opinion so I want to see what other people think. Lehtonen is top 5, arguably top 3. So it's not like I'm comparing a top 3 goalie vs Fleury.

I love when players do that. I wanna do a thesis on that particular phenomenon.

Eh, Lehtonen is probably my favorite starter in the league right now but he needs a more impressive body of work before he can de-throne the King.

Voted for Lundqvist - reason given in the blast from the past (link).

Lehtonen is top 5.

Lundqvist is top 2.

Closer than most would think, though. In terms of pure talent, there's definitely a case to be made. Lehtonen has never had anything close to the defense and structure Lundqvist has.

I agree that it's closer than people might think. I too see Kari as a top 5 goalie.

But this great defensive system in front of Lundqvist is a myth. The Ranger's defense sucks and Torts' "system" is something a caveman would come up with:

"Me no skate, me stand in front of puck, me no care if block goalie's vision, me want coconut." That's our system.

Lundqvist easily.

Maybe if Lehtonen actually stayed healthy then I would call him a top 5 goalie. At this point, his career performance and injury history suggests otherwise.

Sounds like Torts and Gulutzan are opposite sides of the same coin. Both have **** "systems", one is angry and one is in a perpetual state of denial that makes him seem far too calm.

Right unless you're Brad Richards. He's never angry at Richards.

Does Gulutzan have one guy he yells at?

I'm surprised Lehtonen is only a year younger. Anyway, I don't understand why you wrote "now and future" in the poll options if you're only going to have 2 options, that's done when there's like 4 options. Otherwise it's pointless and you may as well just write "Lundqvist vs. Lehtonen".

Lundqvist, but I'd pick him on every goalie poll so not like it's a knock on Kari.

Lundqvist is the best goalie in the world, i think Lehtonen has to do some more to be considered that.
