Brad Richards is getting bought out. That is Fait Accompli

NYR fans want him traded because we have to get Stepan, Hagelin, McDonagh new contracts in a year the cap is going down. Nash we just got, Henrik isn't going anywhere, and if we trade Richards, we're locked to his cap hit when he retires. That makes Gaborik the logical choice to get dealt, provided he can fetch a decent return.
I don't think Gaborik can be had for spare parts, but he has a lot of things working against his value.

- Age/injury concerns
- Big contract
- Drop in production
- Being demoted to the NYR doghouse
- Needs to be moved to make cap room

-He isn't 36. He is 31. He has played in 90+% of his games since joining the Rangers.
-NYR can keep some of his cap hit
-Can't argue here
-Torts is an idiot and needs to be fired
-Very wrong.

Has he missed many games the past few years? I knew he played through an injury in the playoffs, but I thought the groin was no longer an issue, no?
Last I knew, he was 31 (not incredibly old) and just put up 40 goals last season (3rd in NHL). Only guys ahead of him make the same, or much more... and with 1 year left, I don't see that contract as too horrible. From most of the discussion on here, and what I've read, it seems the lack of production is due to 'being in the doghouse', which only compounds the "drop in production" for this season.

Production and fitting are two different things. Callahan produces and fits. Gaborik just produced.

Unfortunately most of us have realized that Torts will be here a while and that Gaborik will be dealt to give Torts more JAM.

Things that probably led to Gaborik down year.
He had shoulder surgery in the off-season
Rangers added Nash who is a RW
Left Rangers with Nash, Gaborik and Callahan all as natural RWs
Coaching moved him to LW

Would not call it being in the doghouse, more like a series of circumstances.

Or Torts could show some intelligence for once and roll these lines

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Zuccarello-Richards-Gaborik
Kreider-Miller-Callahan
Pyatt-Boyle-Powe

Exact line combos aside (the above appears reasonable for the moment) expecting intelligence instead of arrogance from Torts is too much to ask/hope for.

But I will ask anyway.

Dolan, please tell Slats you want Torts fired today.
Appoint Callahan as interim player coach with authority over remaining assistants/replacements.

Thank you.
