Great GR stuff answering some of our questions...

Bjugstad said Wednesday he was 12 credits away from a degree in Business Marketing Education and could finish those up this summer.

The Panthers have been reluctant to rush their top young players although they are making an exception for Bjugstad.
Although they privately wished he would have started his professional career in the minor leagues this year, they didn't want to risk Bjugstad returning to Minnesota for his senior year and becoming a free agent in 2014 by not signing with Florida.

The Panthers will burn a year of his entry level contract by bringing him up to the NHL level. It's a tradeoff they were willing to make.
"We understand what the consequences are,'' Tallon said. "He is an asset we wanted to get signed. We wanted to get him in the fold, get him some games. We want him indoctrinated with our team now.''

So how does it work when it comes to draftees becoming free agents or go back into the draft or whatever?

I'm not sure when they'll post the interview. Maybe by COB today.

It depends on the case. If you're drafting out of the Canadian Junior Leagues, it's a straight 2 years. If you don't sign the draftee, they go back into the draft. It's different with the college ranks and the overseas ranks. IIRC, a team actually continues to hold rights if the draftee chooses to stay overseas and draftees become UFAs if they stay in school for all 4 years (or play a season in Juniors as an overager a la Van Ryn or Schultz)

Not sure if it was this morning or going to be sometime in the afternoon. All I know is Goldie tweeted that 940 WINZ will have Bjug sometime today after he arrives in FLA.

For someone who is young and 6' 6" he's pretty thick. I expected him to be lankier. I guess that's the difference between playing college and playing in the Pros. It must be a lot easier to put on weight and lift during the season in college.

Im really excited for Saturday, almost like Huberdeau excited. I think he is going to turn into one heck of a player for us. God, let us be bad enough over these final 11 games to be able to get a player like MacKinnon or Drouin, because one of those with Jugs and Huby would give us something we havent had in forever, a formidable top line!

Huge difference playing NCAA and juniors; you make a great point.

Even as a golfer my son will be required 3x week supervised 2 hour workouts; he'll eat in the athletic food court, etc etc.
For hockey its exponentially more im sure!!!

No way they pay attention to that in junior hockey, or not to that degree.

They do, but there are so many games that you can't train as much. Midget I was training 4 times a week since you have time for it since you are at school.

Hi Florida fans, very-first post on HF, Habs fan living between Ottawa and Montreal. Been reading you guys for a while, been very intrigued with Bjugstad for a while and I thank you all for the updates in here. In a keeper league, would you trade Michael Ryder for Bjugstad?

It's refreshing to see the guys communicate often on twitter. They all seem to be developing into a tight-knit group. Between Hubs, Marky, Shore and Campbell they tweet each other a good amount. Nick seems like a team-first guy. Check out this interview during his sophomore year..

His attitude regarding his Gopher teammates leads me to believe he's a good guy in the room. I think he'll fit in great here. This move allows him to get accustomed to the NHL as well as South Florida. Get here, get settled and get comfortable so he can come into camp in the fall and have an advantage.

I'm friends with some of the guys on the Gopher hockey team and they all seemed to like Bjugstad a lot. He wasn't really the party type but he'd be out on the town every now and then, and he always seemed like a really good guy when I'd talk to him. It was always funny watching him play every weekend because he could be so dominant but he was kind of a joker off the ice. Here's an interview with our goalie from last year, obviously they liked giving Bjug a hard time .

Just thought about this....

With Smithson getting trade to the Oilers, does Markstrom change to 25?
